My health management

in #health2 days ago

There is so much information on health these days online, rather I can say overload of information and it becomes difficult to identify what is right and what is not. People talk about all different types of diets, each one promotes a diet which as per them is the right one, but not necessary it is the right one. One thing that I follow for myself is I keep myself at limits from all of this information and use my good sense diet, health and weight. Now as I have stepped into my 50s what suited me 2 decades back is not going well with me. I could eat anything that time and even able to absorb it, but now it's not the same.

I have managed my weight between 53 and 55 for years and I want to continue doing that, lately it has been the biggest challenge with the menopause, weight comes up very easily. Some of the techniques I follow to manage my weight is, being conscious about my food intake, not only what I eat but how much I eat. Processed food and all types of canned drinks and juices are completely out of my diet. I am extra mindful about my sugar intake, because this is also one of the main culprit. As silly as it may sound, but I do keep a calorie count of my diet and against that the calorie burn out that happens during the day in different forms. It's not a very precise count but an estimate. My son guides me with this because he is in to functional medicine. My calorie burn in work out is measured but other activities also consume, so that estimate is kept, and then accordingly I plan my intake. This helps me to not over feed my body and gaining that extra fat.

The other one thing that I follow on weight management is going on long fasting hours. Whenever things have gone out of control on diet because of some reason, like holidays or festival, then the next few days I get on to a 24 hour fasting. This has been the most effective and it helps me to shed off all the extra gained weight. Some of my friends and even my hubby say, I over do it, but then why not. In return the result for me is that I do not take a single pill and have absolutely no health issues. So, is it not worth it.

Every 6 months I get a health check up done, my son analyzes the report and then gives me a supplement protocol which helps keep all my markers in green. Along with diet, I follow a supplement protocol which is now become a part of my health management. After a certain age, food alone is not sufficient and additional help is required. Above all I feel keeping body strength is important so for me daily 1 hour work out in different forms is a must where I make sure every body part is well covered. I want to be healthy and fit with my grandchildren and may be my great grandchildren too.

When I look at old people around me, many of them I see are dependent with their health, this is one thing that scares me the most. I do not want to be fragile and weak in my old age, that's why for me building and maintaining body strength is very important.
