Slothicorn is officially being added to the list of open source projects on the Steem blockchain. This post is intended to communicate the key aspects of Slothicorn and tell you how you can get involved with its development. In order to explain what Slothicorn is and for what purpose it was created, a handy infographic has been created:

We decided to join the Creative Commons movement because we feel that copyrights create unnecessary friction in our community. By creating a Creative Commons movement in our community, we can free up entrepreneurs who want to create products, businesses and other projects that need artwork. We see the Creative Commons movement as a significant way to build a thriving new community based on shared resources. This is possible because I am using my stake in Steem to reward those who contribute to the commons.

Additionally, by creating a valuable shared resource, we increase the value of Steem. Other crypto communities within Steem, like Utopian, as well as other crypto projects can feel free to use our Creative Commons art for their needs as well. This helps to offset the negative image of Steem as a purely selfish and scammy platform. If you’re still confused about what Slothicorn is, think of like this:
We’re creating a Universal Basic Income for people who create shitty GIFs
A non-sarcastic definition would be: Sprinkling magic slothicorn dust all over the world in the hopes that 1% of the population will be inspired to create some shitty GIFs for our Creative Commons collection.

Ok, let’s try again:
Sprinkling magical slothilicious portals all over the globe, in the hopes that starving artists can find us, then help free the world of both copyrights and fiat shitcoins through their creative works.

Additionally, many people do not know what crypto art is, and here’s a helpful graphic for you:

The cryptoart genre is an emerging art form, brought into existence by cryptocurrency. It’s growing very quickly and is revolutionizing the way that artists are compensated. Crypto Kitties was largely responsible for bringing crypto collectibles into mainstream view. I understood from a long time ago that games, art and fun things are way more powerful as a tool for mass adoption than high-brow articles.

HOW TO CONTRIBUTE TO SLOTHICORN

Game Development

We are currently building our Welcome To Slothicorn AR Game (AR = Alternate Reality) and @justatouchfey is the director.

Main points of game: “Welcome to Slothicorn” is an alternate reality game where players are encouraged to create crypto-themed art for the creative commons and taught how to use the tools of crypto to support themselves financially. Starting with the appearance of public slothicorn statues around the equinox (March 20ish, 2018) players complete 5 game levels which cultimate in creating a slothicorn portal to invite more players in to the game. The slothicore community will run a decentralized welcome to slothicorn event around the solstice. The game’s goal is to have creators and players enjoy making art, sharpening their crypto skills, hopefully closer to financial freedom.” -@justatouchfey

Our immediate need is for more artists to create the Slothicorn portals. If you would like to create a Slothicorn portal for our game, please join us in Discord. Send me a direct message stating your interest. The Slothicorn portals will have a QR code on them which will take people into the game via our website. (slothicorn.com is in the process of being made https. We’ll release this soon.)

If you want to contribute to it, best way is to create a post via Utopian and make sure and use the tag ‘slothicorn’ in addition to the required ones. In the future, our goal is to have an open source block explorer.

WRITING

In our Discord channel there is now a channel named “Post Requests”. This is a list of titles for posts that we would like written. Soon, we will add some guidelines on how to submit written articles for Slothicorn. Up until now, we have only been rewarding creative commons crypto art. We wanted to first build a community and define our mission before we opened up to written works. (The other reason for doing this is to limit the number of shitposts I have to read through each day. If you don't consider yourself a decent writer, please don’t write a post for Slothicorn. We are very quality conscious and we will reject any articles that are not up to our quality standards.)

ART
