I Caught Myself.

This post is a more of a personal "ah-ha" moment and I felt inspired to share. I had an experience that happened to be a perfect example of how our perception is everything.

I woke up extra early this morning. I really treasure early mornings. Its when I feel the most inspired and usually when I do the bulk of my writing. Mornings to me, are a clean slate before it gets tainted with with anything negative.

I also enjoy driving to get a coffee early in the morning, and as I walked outside, I realized it had snowed some and was still snowing. I will admit, I was pretty disappointed. It’s April 20th, and I’m craving sun, forgive me.

However, I was still in a peaceful mood and was going to still enjoy my drive, but that grrrr feeling was with me.

During my drive there, I was deep in thought about perception and how we as humans need to be selective in how we perceive things. How all the little subtle things we draw conclusions on each day, is part of the bigger picture and how we can raise our vibration.

As I approached the window of the drive through, I said to the lady working, “I don’t know where this snow is coming from.” Her reply, “It must really love us.”

Right there, in that moment, I realized the other option. This was an exact example I was deep in thought about just moments before.

She chose to see it with Love.

Her perception: “It must really love us.”

Which translates to: “We are loveable”

My perception was, “What is this, why am I being punished?”

Which translates to: ’I must deserved to be punished.”

As subtle as this example is, this is where all the power lies. It’s also where our own subconscious subliminal messages come from.

It’s these tiny things we come across throughout the day that set the tone.

This lady that was working, always has a smile on her and face and is the most kind and friendly worker I’ve seen work there. (she's really got it going on) I live in a small place where there’s quite a bit of negativity and complaining going on (especially about the weather). She really is a breath of fresh air.

If this happened to be another worker, I would guess 10 of 10 people would have agreed with me that this snow needs to go. She on the other hand, seemed totally fine with what was, and not only fine, but found a way to see it with love.

If we could just start with being fine with what is. To even keep it neutral until we can strengthen our ability and habits to see love in everything.

It’s about the micro level things that are going to make up the macro perception.

I’m grateful for the lesson, and even though I know better, sometimes we just don’t see it.

It has since stopped snowing, and as much as I realized, it must really love us, I think I will think about how much the sun must really love us too.

Lovely work @tressareid thanks for posting.

I am absolutely guilty of this very thing and could definitely use a bit of coaching when it comes to perception and outlook. I tend to stack negatives and let it impact my day and I don't even realise it's happening until its too late. At that point I've either done something or said something negative.

I've read a theory that channeled positive thinking for specific situations, both spiritual and materialistic, that will directly get you positive results. I'm not totally sold on this but it's an interesting concept. I definitely think that a positive attitude can contribute to a happier atmosphere in your immediate environment, even if it's only in a small way.

I guess I just need to try a bit harder and remain aware of negative outside influences.

Thanks again for sharing and stay positive. :)

Cheers, Gaz.

I think we are all guilty of it and in my experience, I get better and better at choosing which side of the coin I'm willing to see. The thing with thoughts, it it builds momentum, so when we can catch ourselves before we've done too much damage, it's usually easier to turn around and choose again.

I'm not sure what theory you are mentioning, but I think all attempts at positive thinking is a step in the right direction. Being the observer of your thoughts and making an honest attempt to notice as much as you can, until you build a new habit. The practice of gratitude is so beneficial as well.

I'm happy you shared your experience here, you're not alone, fear and negativity can be debilitating and can really set the tone of our days. Practice makes perfect though, and always know, you can choose again and again, until you find a perception that you prefer.

Thanks again for sharing!

You are most welcome. I think i'm heading out to work today with a smile and a positive attitude. :)

I have mentioned your post in another thread from @uwelang that was about a positive attitude on Steemit. He's going to check out your post out later.

Gaz

Thanks so much! I hope you have a really positive day!

You too. Somehow I think we will! :)

Hi again. Here's my new post. You get a cheeky plug!

Enjoy. Gaz

I don't really like wearing jewelry. It's uncomfortable. So I wear a ring.

Every time I notice that ring, which is often, I check in with myself and have a look at what my internal dialog is. Then I steer that dialog. When I start getting used to the ring, I stop wearing it for a while.

That's a steady and slow method. Highly emotionally charged moments are much faster, which I learned when I was very young and in the Marines. The very same things that can turn a kid into a monster are the same tools that I can use now to achieve faster results...nothing imprints like physical and emotional exhaustion, and taking yourself all the way to your limits and beyond is a powerful way to make something feature more in every day experience. So I ride a mountain bike straight up a hill and when I feel like I'm dying, I breathe in and say, Love. And when I breathe out I say, Gratitude.

I like my job because I get to deal with people in a fun, sometimes very scary, highly emotionally charged experience. This is when I use my experience, and the fruits of my practice, to teach mindfulness, attention to detail, unity, etc. Just careful words, with an even more careful intent that springs from abundance rather than lack.

@tressareid, this article is on point...and the timing is wonderful!!! I appreciate the helping hand, and I hope there is something in what I wrote that speaks to somebody.

Peace

I can see that method being very effective. I think I may try something along these lines, (an excuse to buy myself a new beautiful ring maybe...lol)

It sounds as though you are giving it all you've got and I love that. You've been providing some major contribution to these topics and I appreciate that. Myself, and I'm sure other readers, will find great value in your input here. Thanks!

Light up! :)

Pls kindly follow back

I am a veteran negative thinker. I used to find something negative to think about every day. Decades of introspection, therapy, support groups and tons of reading got me to this point: I am agnostic about everything. Not just God. Everything.

I found, at least for me, negative thinking comes from my predictions about outcomes. Everything had a negative outcome and that meant I wasn't going to get what I wanted. I was attached to the outcome and it was all negative. I even figured out that happiness isn't getting everything you want. It's knowing what to do when you don't.

I found that once I was able to let go of the predictions, to be willing to watch the world turn without me trying to impose my will upon it, I was happier. This may sound like a shameless pitch, but it's not - if you read some of my earlier blog articles, you'll see this in my writing.

I do what do I do not to make things happen. I do what I do to see what happens next. And if I'm not making predictions about what will happen next, my mind is open to the possibilities. To do just that, I must accept everything exactly the way it is, without reservation. I tend to have better days that way.

Anyway, this is turning into an article . :) I hope you find this little post helpful.

Hi @digitalfirehose, I resonate with this more than you might expect. This was exactly my story,, and still is at times. I get it.

I was also attached to outcomes and realized how much of a control freak I was in all aspects of my life. I have suffered a great deal of anxiety which is a direct link to the "lack of control" thing.

I was always looking into the future and trying to make predictions too. I have come along way, I was a negative thinker as well (out of fear). It's gradual, and I still slip up and let the negative momentum take over at times but like you said, "to be willing to watch the world turn without me trying to impose my will upon it". That's it right there!

I'm really glad you shared this and contributed to the topic. I will check out some of your posts :)

The best post come from the most unexpected places, wouldn't you agree? I love how you went and continued on.

I really enjoyed your original comment and your new post. It highlighted that deeper reason I sometimes forget. Thanks for reminding me that choosing to just see what happens next is the smart, less painful route. :)

Love your little story with big wisdom.

I enjoyed this very much..

You are such a beautiful soul!

Nice reflection. I like your breakdown of the different perceptions into what message it translates into. We carry around that translated message whether we recognize it or not.
