We are one world, one people and we have one problem that supersedes all others. We are a people in dire need of leadership.

One of the biggest frustrations felt around the world is that our leaders don't do enough to improve lives. They do a lot to improve their lives, and the lives of lobbyists and donors, but not the lives of the people that entrusted their leaders with power.
We are a world void of positive leaders. People children can look up to.
Presidents, Prime Ministers, Governors are leaders that would rather politicize a tragedy than stop the next one. But it goes much deeper than elected officials. Where are the citizen leaders?
Where are people like Mr. Rogers? Story time: Back in 1969, Richard Nixon cut the budget for public television and Mr. Rogers went to Capitol Hill to plea his case to the U.S. Senate. He didn't do it for publicity, or for personal gain, but he stepped up as leader in childhood education. In six minutes, he saved public television... and then some. (Watch this clip, it is amazing)

We need more people like Mr. Rogers. People who lead and speak for those that cannot speak.
Where are the people like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr? A man who lead America towards and age of equality? A man who served with passion for peace. A leader who ultimately gave his life fighting for what is right.

Where are the leaders?
In order for good people to lead, they need good people to follow. That is our responsibility. Humanity needs to get behind good people. We need to vote out the bad and give our children leaders to look up to.
Take it one step further, we need to be the leaders we want to see in the world. Parents need to be the leaders of their households and raise children with the compassion, morals and equality that we learned from Mr. Rogers and Dr. King.
First we have to recognize that the leaders we have trusted have failed us, and begin change our future. It is up to us. If we can't lead ourselves out of this downward spiral of greed and hate, then we will pass on a world more broken to our children and that simply is unacceptable.
Find a way to lead each day. Find people you can believe in and vote them into leadership positions. If your representatives are not good leaders... vote them out. In a democracy, we all are responsible for the actions of our leaders, and we have to stop thinking of right and left... conservative and liberal. We must think of our children first and what is right. Find common ground and lead ourselves into a brighter future.
If we can't be leaders, find leaders and be responsible for the decisions we make, then we will be held accountable the future we create. We are out of time... Don't let the same thing happen to our children.

Here is my theory, and it is certainly not scientific! I believe humanity is at a turning point. I believe the Mayans NAILED it, that 2012 was then end of an era. It was the end of "being led." Or it should have been, it is not like turning a page it is a human by human realization of our right and responsibility to self govern. We do not need another leader, we must learn to lead ourselves and let others live according to their inner compass. Of course, currently most humans have turned their moral compass off and live by such solid ethics as "I'm just doing my job" and "Not my circus, not my monkeys" and other utterly useless cliches.
Yes, so many things changed after 2012. I can't imagine now country where 90%+ of people believe in their president. They lose our trust. We believe less and less.
I agree we have turned a corner, but we'll still need leaders to lead people to the understanding it takes to self govern. All gurus had master. Someone to follow and learn from. Who are some of the people leading the awakening movement? I don't know any but would love to. I think you are right, but there is a long time before we get there. First the power structure that is in place will have to change, and that could only change from within, as far as I can tell. Interesting to think about, and I hope we get there, but I feel there are a lot of roadblocks on the way that the average person will need solid leadership to forge through. To misquote Casteneda, to be an impeccable warrior requires that I assume everyone around me is an impeccable warrior. They must lead themselves to self governance... it could get messy but it won't work any other way.
When we were approaching the year 2012, for shits and giggles I began looking into evidence that it would be the end of the world among religions and philosophy. So, my theory is much in line with yours and is also not scientific. The 21st century is supposedly the age of Aquarius, according to astrology (take that as you will). The Age of Aquarius did not start on January 1st of 2000, but in the year 2012(ish), according to some "experts" who believe that stuff. The Age of Aquarius is an age of change and could be seen as the end of the world...as we know it. This falls in line with the Mayans who may have just gotten it by luck or had seen something or figured something out or just ran out of space. If you look back at the last 6 years...lots of change. Hell, if you look at 2008 when economies crashed and bitcoin entered the world to plant a seed for great changes, you can see that the 21st century has indeed been a time of change.
Whatever your beliefs, I think we can all agree that our world is going through a massive overhaul and we are in for a hell of a ride the next 100 years and beyond.

Yep. The best example I can come up with is Agenda 21. In 2007 I was playing politics and working trade shows, going door to door, making cold calls - I was really playing. I was trying to educate people about the UN and Agenda 21. I was called crazy more times than I can count. In 2012 Agenda 21 was put on the GOP platform as an issue to address. That was ONE election cycle...
I am researching that now.

Yes leaders don't do enough because they have to please all the people around them first. This will always be the case unless the people smarten up and elect the right people and government influence is a lot smaller.
Once a person realizes they can ONLY control their own thoughts and behaviors, they can begin to at least change themselves from the inside out. If everyone had the will, and the strength to do that, things would be different. However, the majority prefer to give away their power to someone else.
At this point, there is too much of an imbalance in those that are "morally responsible" vs. the hierarchy model, of needing "Leaders." Those models have basically set up a system where we give away our control.
Unfortunately, those that end up being chosen to lead, become intoxicated with their own power. Those who may once have been "worthy," just become greedy and self-serving. Then everybody looks around and wonders why they were misled or fooled, but they forget that they created those monsters themselves, by giving them all of their power, and by putting a mere human being on too high a pedestal.
Moral ambiguity will continue to divide, causing those seeking power over others, an open door to lead.
So, personally, I dislike and reject the term "LEADER." Perhaps these good men described above can be considered as "Pioneers" or "Trailblazers."
We definitely need more of those that seek to "serve humanity" rather than to "lead" anybody.

the problem is that anyone who thinks they are the best person to be a president or senator or mayor believes they are the best person for the job, out of all the citizens, so in order to run for such an office one must be a narcissist.

I think those are great men you listed. I think that good leaders are hard to come by , not because they do not exist but because it takes money to be a elected official and most good people are busting their ass at a 9 to 5 job to put food on thier families tables. I truely hope that what we are doing here right now on steemit will allow 1 or 2 of us that are good people but can not now afford to lead, to have the funds to lead in the future thanks to this platform.

Lock up the crazy,pedophiles, and violent people forever and stop locking up the people that want to smoke a joint and talk about how cool it would be to go to mars and smoke a joint.

Leaders a paid a lot of money. This seems to make sense because leading is a job that is often thankless and it is a job that requires making decisions that may lead you to be hated and/or lead to the loss of lives, etc. The requirement of the job, however, are not an excuse for doing a shit job. Until we remove the private interests that are paying people making decisions, we will always see corporations reaping the benefits. This won't happen until we find a way for someone to campaign without requiring hundreds of millions of dollars. Term limits are often talked about and could also be an answer to the problem.
