Hallucination - Day 72 of the SSPC by Daniel
Hallucination
She was sitting peacefully
the dinner was getting ready
shouts made others jump in fear
she was running around madly
pointing towards the ceiling fan
she demanded the girl be brought down from the 'tree'
we looked on helplessly
she was missing her daughters
who had rejected both her and the dementia
she did not forget them though
they continued to be in her thoughts
she was pacified and made to eat a hot meal
calmed down and slept for a while
the shouts kept coming back in intervals
{every cloud has a silver lining}
life as a caregiver is a challenge indeed
it takes all our willpower to overpower harsh emotions
frustration, anger, and hate
often directed toward those who have neglected
they who want only her wealth and nothing more
karma is a reality
wish they realized it before it is too late

@d-pend contest
entry for Announcing the Steemit School Poetry 100 Day Challenge! (Total Prize Fund 2000 SBD)
I write poems to express myself. I started writing at the age of twelve or so and some of my poems were published in magazines for children, a time when print still ruled the world. The internet and the blogging world has helped me write poems. Most of it was as I wrote earlier, to express myself and my thoughts. I have also been a ghostwriter.
Steemit has helped me write with freedom and also earned me very good friends who encourage me to write. I hope my readers will support me and also join in this contest. I am not a student of literature and so I do not consider myself an expert in poetry. It is the judge who will decide.

Great topic. I'm glad there are people out there who value those who are struggling through their later years. I like how you tell a story with this poem. The short, succinct lines draw the reader in for the meat of the story.
I like this line a lot. It makes the scene come to life. I can imagine how a delusional person would say this remembering something from the past. It also makes me wonder who's in the tree and why. I like how you show us the difficult reality that relatives often abandon these vulnerable people and the brunt of the task gets pushed entirely onto just a few of the family members.
These lines make me realise that the person giving the care is concerned about how the discarding of the elder will effect everyone.
I liked this piece. 😎
