what is love to you
is it just a feeling
or is it an emotion
that is felt by a few
love is when you feel
the planet has just turned green
colors appear bright
and everything has an appeal
love makes you smile
even at those who you defy
love is what makes you soft
and you forget to rile
love one and all
forget the selfishness once and for all

I write poems to express myself. I started writing at the age of twelve or so and some of my poems were published in magazines for children, a time when print still ruled the world. The internet and the blogging world has helped me write poems. Most of it was as I wrote earlier, to express myself and my thoughts. I have also been a ghostwriter.
Steemit has helped me write with freedom and also earned me very good friends who encourage me to write. I have always written in the English language but a fellow Indian inspired me to do so in our national language - Hindi. I attempted it and then came across this contest. So, I have decided to participate and try my hand in several languages including my native language. I hope my readers will support me and also join in this contest. I am not a student of literature and so I do not consider myself an expert in poetry. It is the judge who will decide.

Good luck.. Try occasionally to write in our regional languages along with translations..It will obviously going to be helpful to the people coming from those regions.. Hindi is not our national language..There is no national language for India.
I know @d-pend knows to read and write some Malayalam..He once told me that he had been in Trivandrum for few months!He replied to me in Malayalam scripts too.
Let's take small initiatives in hope of bright future.

I enjoyed reading it. For me these final two lines are what gives it it's power -
But I would add this as a sidenote for you - love one and all also means to love oneself - it can be easy to love others but for most here I believe we are on the path to rediscovering self-love and true appreciation and acceptance of oneself -
To get to this place takes some degree of selfishness - For when you have true love for yourself you will take time for you to do your practices and make sure you feel good - nourishing mind, body AND soul - but it is also not really selfis, because you do this so you may serve others better, which is what happens when you take the me-time to ensure you are at your best.
It's a funny paradox!
Anyway, keep it up :) I look forward to reading your other submissions.
