Garage thoughts - What do you do when you reach 500sp?

I will likely go into a bit more detail regarding the subject title however for now I'm going to touch on the concern I have.

When you reach 500sp you get your little slider. Whoohoo! Something many of the red fish out there get excited about. It's a goal thats been achieved. Yay!!

What interests me though is what Steemians do once that little vibe has been unlocked... ... ...

I'll just spill the beans here and tell you what works on my nerves. Yeah, you've unlocked the slider but don't now go around thinking you can upvote peeps at 10%, increasing your footprint by 100... or whatever... yet that vote = something that is insignificant relevant to your sp...

Ok, so there are a handful of heavy hitters out there and once you actually have that amount available, then your 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 % will make a difference.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that it seems insignificant to me spreading your Peanut Butter as thin as you can. Rather give what you have.

If you feel differently, please explain to me why?

About time for this post to appear! Information is scarce on how to use the slider and one must learn the hard way! In bad times such as now, I stick to the 50% rule and as the steemit price increases I go back to the 100% habit! Of course it eats into one's voting power, as I was told to try to keep my voting reserve at 90%. I just do not have the heart to give a person 1% of my vote! 2%, 5%, or even 10% is low offering especially if a person has put a lot of effort into their post, as we all do. With regards to your vp it's safe to keep it above 80%. That will be about 10 100% votes per day.

I too feel the same way you did @therneau, and I am sure every one feel the same. Let's hope all our dreams will come true soon.

Agree with what both of you are saying @therneau and @zakludick using the slider wisely, I try upvote after reading try obtain .02 for upvote, more often than not go back to check VP %, always comment where others take the time to reciprocate.

Reading comments from posts I put up, I try upvote at least two good responses, creating more development in responding and actually discussing various dynamics on topic.

Those who never respond (this is social media after all) I will upvote if I enjoy the content only if it really is well written or beneficial.

Tell you what. You help me get to 500SP and I will tell you how I will dish the love ;)

I think that there is a lack of leadership and tutorship from the bigger accounts to the little ones. Sometimes if you ask enough then you get little nuggets here and there.

This is what I have pieced together so far:

  • You always want to build up more SP. 500SP is a nice milestone and then? Carry on.
  • You can upvote more people daily once you have the slider. This needs to scale with your SP.
  • A redfish can upvote 20 posts a day and recharge to 100ish percent VP. at 500SP you can make it 30/40, at 2000SP make it 50/60. (Or whatever works)
  • Other people have a value system. 100% = fully support, 50% = greatly support, 10% = support, 1% = recognised.

Yeah @therneau, I think that if you were getting 0.05 upvotes from someone on 480SP suddenly dropped to 0.005 upvotes because they get a slider then that would be kinda stupid.

Well, this is why we should focus on gathering strong support from a smaller group of friends.

With regards to the 3rd point, it's more in the region of 10 votes per day (full power). This will keep your vp above 80%.
Much agreed with regards to guidance from the bigger accounts. Unfortunately it seems as if most of them are only in it for themselves which has a negative ripple effect on the platform as a whole. With that being said there are those that care about the platform and the people using it.

If I had a vote of say, $1 in value , I'd rather vote less and keep it at 50% on comments and 100% on posts. That's just me though :) 3 cents from a low vp account means far more to me than 6 cents from a high vp account.
Anyway, as mentioned I'll likely delve into the subject at hand in more detail.

There should be a balance between quantity and quality of upvotes. You want both to scale up with your SP.
