NaNoWriMo Installment 3

This is barely anything, but barely anything is still not nothing.

She didn’t want to disturb it, so she just continued staring into it. And as she continued staring, she had a harder and harder time keeping her eyes open.

Astrid’s eyes shot wide open. Oh no. She’d fallen asleep accidentally, which meant unanchored, and she’d drifted to an unfamiliar part of the ocean. Another cool thing about being half unicorn, half mermaid, besides being telepathic (which she got from her unicorn side), was that her eyes were a bit like flashlights. But invisible flashlights. Astrid could see in the dark depths of the ocean and didn’t have to solely rely on other senses. She got this from her mermaid side. And she appreciated this ability so much, really, though she was having a hard time being happy being able to see that she was completely lost.

How far could she possibly have drifted? It wasn’t like she hadn’t done any exploring outside the merpeople’s territory. But she’d very strictly stayed within five minute’s distance from their territory because it was against the rules to do even that, and she wasn’t so much a rules breaker as a rules stretcher. She tried not to panic as she looked around. Those were unfamiliar caves with scary looking tentacles extending from them. There were some dangerous looking bottom feeders glaring at her. That was...a primate of some sort?

Astrid swam behind some tall sea grasses to try and figure out what this strange creature was.
