Pilates = Pain. Fitness Journey 2018

in #fitness7 years ago

2018 has begun and I decided that it was finally time to get serious about looking after myself. Not just in the vain "I want to look good naked" way (although that totally applies too) but in the "I just turned 30, I need to start looking after this body if I want it to last" type of way. So I booked in a dental check up, went to my GP to get a general health check, booked myself a series of acupuncture treatments, bought a gym membership and started Pilates reformer classes. Yeah, I don't do thing half-arsed it appears.

So I have been doing Pilates for a few weeks now and I really had zero idea how weak I really am! Last week the instructor (a qualified physiotherapist) decided we need to work inner thighs. Overall it was a good class, I sucked but I did my best and by the end of the class I felt good. I rushed off to my mothers graduation, not giving pilates another thought. Holy fuck am I sore today! Like even crossing my legs is sore. Last night was 100% awful trying to sleep and I am dreading how much I will struggle at the gym tomorrow. I am currently limping around work and making weird noises when I go from sitting to standing.

Anyway, I am enjoying the beginning of what I assume will be short fitness addiction. The pain sucks but they tell me it will be worth it. I secretly think they are lying but who knows, I'll judge that for myself in another few months.

Hard work pays dividends. Cheers!

Thats what they tell me! Thanks :)

The old mid-life crisis ..... its a fun one :-)

Ugh, it sucks. Dentist appointment tomorrow too. Will the torture never end?!

Hi @jac-e, I put my hand up to be your 'mentor' but this was the first post I could find to upvote and resteem for you. In hindsight they probably should have let the new users pick their mentors rather than the other way around, so unfortunately you are stuck with me for now :p

Just a couple of things that you might want to start doing early and get into a habit of doing that I think will really help with the posts:

  1. use the tag #newbieresteemday on your posts because this is an initiative to get new comers more exposure and connect with other newbies here, and if you want to read more about it check out @newbieresteemday.

  2. Sign up to Discord (https://discordapp.com/) if you haven't already done so because it is a little bit better than using steemit.chat at the moment, and also there are lots of groups on Steemit that are on there.

  3. Use @ginabot (https://steemit.com/@ginabot) when you have signed up to Discord to manage notifications on Steemit and find out when people mention your name or when you get upvotes, comments and replies to your posts.

  4. Feel free to ask me anything (I use the same username on Discord) or talk to other people in teamaustralia and the other mentors because I am sure they know lots of things that I don't.

I am sure that's enough for now, welcome to Steemit and enjoy the journey :)

Thank you so much! Clearly I am very new to steemit so all the help I can get would be great. I've signed up the Discord already and will sort out @ginabot asap. Thanks again, I'm really excited about this platform!

That's great to hear, I am sure you'll do very well here and we are all here to provide the support and help that you need :) Let me know if you have any questions.

lol love the I just turned 30 category reasoning. i am the same so i tried waking up early for 2 things...meditation and just some "yoga". Basically I suck at both, in fact i struggle to get up. do you think it is worth going to a class or continue trying at home?

Honestly, I think its waaaaay easy to grab a friend and go to class. If you commit to doing something with another person, you are much less likely to bail on the whole idea. I do staff pilates class at work and if I don't go, I won't hear the end of it for at least a week. Easier to go :)
