YouTube Censorship is Out of Control!

A Wild 48 Hours

In the past two days, several YouTube Channels have been completely deleted, like @jroseland of Limitless Mindset (who's now here on Steemit) and Ryan Ballow of Live Cortex.

What do these channels, including all of the other deleted ones, have in common?

They talk about legal cognitive enhancing supplements called nootropics, which is part of a larger field of study called "biohacking."

My YouTube channel is also under attack. I have received two strikes for reviewing products you can buy at Whole Foods, one more and my channel is in danger of being deleted.  I have been working to delete any "suspect" videos on my channel (I have removed 101 videos so far) but even this may not be enough.

What do we do?

Jonathan & I have already joined DTube - moving to decentralized platforms seems like the right way to go. I am contacting every media outlet that has reached out to me over the years to report on my YouTube channel to try and bring more attention to this issue.

What does YouTube's actions mean for You and all Content Creators?

YouTube has now proved several times over they are not a free-speech platform. I'm not saying it is intentional in all cases (because they want to make money via ads on videos that their advertisers approve of) but their automated systems and methodology of deleting entire channels needs to be improved.

Comment below!

Do you have a bad experience with YouTube or a similar platform? Why do you use a product like Steemit? I'd love to hear your perspective.

This has been going on for some time.

They want to have the best of both worlds:

  • a site with curated content where everything requires approval. Thing is, that means it is NOT an open platform.
    Also,
  • An open platform, where people are free to post whatever they find interesting. Which means that the platform can only censor what goes against stated rules.

If they are an open platform, they have no liability for content. If they are publishers then they are liable for every crime that gets posted.

They need to dance that fine line; ultimately, the platform will end up losing out on the long term as the decentralized systems take stronger audiences.

They're absolutely ridiculous. If YouTube wants to be a closed platform, they should be honest about it and fix their automated systems to allow channels that take years to be established to modify or delete their content to stay active and follow the rules.

I agree with you prediction that in the long run they will lose if they keep this up.

I personally only have a few YouTube videos of my own on YouTube. I must say for being an open source video platform they sure are screwing their platform up.

C'mon really GOOGLE Nootropics?, petty B.S. lol hey at least it's not heroin... right?

Welcome to your new platform guys I'm @davidisfedup keep up the good work!

Agreed, it's silly. Thank you!!

There is a concerted effort from certain very powerful people to make the rest of the people conform and accept their imposed rule. The way to fight back is to move into decentralized platforms, cryptocurrencies and raise awareness.

YouTube is being absolutely, undoubtedly selfish by protecting its advertisers, trying to clean up its content and prevent another monstrous screw-up by one of its creators from making global headlines. Right now, YouTube needs to be selfish.
