The scariest bug I have ever seen and Timelapse Photo #34

When I took the kids out to the bus this morning and then got on my own bus, the best way to describe the weather was that it felt like a thunderstorm.

It was hot, it was muggy, the air felt thick and heavy and it felt like it was going to start raining and lightening any minute. I took my time walking the dogs to admire the new buds on the trees because even if it did rain, it was too warm to matter much.

So I went to work in just my short-sleeve shirt and jeans.

Now work is over, and it's cold out here fam. Lake Superior's mood swings can pull cold fronts in at insane speed.

So I'm complaining to you, shivering at the bus stop. And yes. It's raining. Thanks Nature. 😒

Also, nature! This creature is UNNECESARY!

I found this 2 1/2 inch long monster outside of work today. Don't worry, it was already dead when I found it so putting it in the container did it no harm.

I asked the internet. Hey! Internet. What is this monster and why is it not in the south with the other scary creatures?! This bug and its friends are the reason I live in snow 7 months of the freaking year!!!

The internet responded. That is a Giant Water Beetle, also known as a "Toe Pincher" and they live here sometimes.

Oh. Em. Gee. What next? Poisonous snakes and freaking tarantulas?! Global warming is a thing, people! Must. Seek. Colder. Grounds!

Ah yes, the church!

Ppl sometimes confuse em with cockroaches. They also can bite and the bite is painful. Even dead I still wouldn't want to smash it. Yuck!! We have some scary bugs here too. Some HUGE giant beetle that flies...looks like something from a horror movie or time forgot!! I don't understand their purpose either. We also have preying mantis here, which I adore because they kill earwigs, which are on my list of HATE, as well as other pests! I realize that in parts of the world preying mantis can get so big that they can kill a small bird, but I still rather have them then not. Greenhouses here sell their egg nests that you can put in your garden to hatch. I, being ever crazy, would buy both a preying mantis nest AND a bunch of lady bugs that I released part inside the house as well as out because I found them helpful in reducing indoor pests. Specially the mantis! Some even have em as pets!!

And there's even pretty orchid mantis!!

So lucky! Mantis are one of my favorite bugs. I mean, i'm a huge pansycake, so I probably wouldn't touch it, but I think it would be cool to observe them!

Ohh I get it! I don't think I could handle a preying mantis, unless it was a pretty orchid one, crawling on me either and that's a bug I like! Altho I have no problems with the babies so I guess size does matter. Lol hehe! Allegedly due to our higher elevation, we don't have as many bugs they say, but I bet to differ. We not only have em, but seem to be getting more!! Just like all of Colorado never used to have any kind of a humid season but the part I live in, now does like August-septemberish. Reminds me of the humidity we had in s Dakota when I was little. Aberdeen, where I was born, could be super humid!!

I used to think the same when I lived up north, at least we don't have dangerous big insects, spiders or snakes. But we did have mosquitoes and those very small pesky biting insects ... and wasps and some other meat-eating insects. Came to think, I'm less bothered by insects down here in the southern Norway after all.

Hahaha!

Our south has scorpions. It's not a thing I can mentally wrap my head around. Like, a spider lobster of death.
