Be Like Iceland! A Lesson For Every Steemian!
Yesterday two teams with a lot of offensive power had their debut in this world cup. Both teams France and Argentina are known for their offensive strength. In France, they have the faith that this national team is able to achieve something and some people see France as a contender for the title.
Argentina, with the best player in the world(my opinion) of course too.
But I have to say that both teams disappointed yesterday! France and Argentina were not able to dominate the game as expected. That's true, and I believe many of you who watched both games will agree with me. But let me tell you something about that.
Yes, guys who care about the games yesterday. I can understand the ordinary viewer at home or in a cafe, bar or restaurant celebrating the world cup want to see a game like Portugal-Spain where many goals happen. I can totally understand that. People are murmuring about Messi how bad he shot his penalty, and that's right. Let me tell you this.
This is the World Cup!
What matters is the end! Which team will hold the trophy at the end?
The typical viewer often overlooks this fact. This is how players think. Of course, both teams are for sure not happy with their performance, France has even won and collected three points. As I said yesterday, the result at the end matters. No its time to focus on the next game to make the best of it.
Do you remember the European Championship two years ago?
Honestly, Portugal, in my opinion, didn't play good, but in the end, they had the trophy, and that means they did something right and of course you also need luck. After the world cup, we can make an accurate analysis of every team and player but not during the competition. Everything during the competition is just a between conclusion which is not final. But that not the point of today's Post :D
Both opponents Australia and Iceland made an excellent game against those giants. I want to highlight Iceland and create a connection to Steemit or other goals you have set for your life.
Are you aware how tiny this nation is?
The population of Iceland is around 350.000!
Argentina, for example, has around 45 million population!
Both numbers are rounded up.
What I want to say is that Iceland because of their small population can't draw on unlimited sources. That is already a disadvantage. Major nations can observe so many players and collect the best in their eyes.
But that doesn't mean that Iceland can't perform on an equal level.
The opposite is the case they already proved it in the European Championship.
And when you watched the game; Oh guys for me it was like a delicious cake to watch that. This team is so disciplined. Every single one of them is doing his job, it was visible. Unfortunately, I have no image to show you. Maybe this video works:
Not really the best way but look how small Iceland is keeping the space between the lines. What I mean is the space between the defenders, midfielders, and strikers when Argentina is building up. I know it's not the best way to show what I mean.
And of course, they to do that, when you play against someone like Messi who can eat you in a phone box. Messi doesn't need much space to create something, and he showed it yesterday also.
For that, every single component of the team members has to function you know how tough that is? That is one thing! The other thing is that they also play great forward. They aren't some Vikings who know just to destroy, know they can play forward they have a plan and qualities to do that and all with limited sources.
They are not complaining saying: Are we have not so many great world players we can't win. No, they take what they have and try to make the best of it.
A lesson every one of us should heed. Having an obvious disadvantage doesn't mean you can't beat a giant. See David again Goliath.
Maybe some people need this kind of truth and encouragement for their personal goals, maybe for your purposes here on Steemit?
Take what you have and try to make the best of it.
Gespannt wie es weitergeht - bislang hat nur Russland überzeugt oder? Übrigens kannst nich beim #charityworldcup contest mitmachen, die ersten Auktionen enden heute bereits.
It is indeed what Iceland accomplished in that game. And its not luck as you pointed out this is now consistent with their performance during the European cup so it's no fluke. Discipline really is the best quality one can instill in kids. Talent is good. But discipline is better because while talent is not something you consciously choose, discipline is. Since everyone has some talent - something they do better than most, imagine what happens when that is found and combined with discipline.
If Iceland does make it to the next round it'll be truly remarkable for such a tiny nation. Am sure a lot of people wrote them off completely, I'll love to see them spring more surprises
Excellent comparison between the analysis of the game of yesterday vs life .... It is true that we should NOT feel limited by being small or have any apparent disadvantage!

Very true sir. Having a disadvantage that is so obvious to people does not mean one can't make it. It's about determination to get a desired target in life.
The crawling of the snail does mean weakness but rather it means consistency in that journey
Thank you for this inspiration.
I am not sure France will last longer in this cup. a really poor match from Argentina who still think that Messi is Maradonna and will give them the world cup. PFFRE
You are right buddy we cant judge a team by seeing only one performance.
A winner was once a looser
I really understand you view and opinions on this brother, I thought Argentina would devoured the team like Iceland but to my surprise, the match actually end drew. I guess there is need to convert little resources we have at our disposal to make good results from it. I learned a great lesson from yesterday match, big name, big team is not always the answer.
Though this doesn't mean that team like Argentina won't have their way to the top or hold the cup in the end, just like Portugal performance @euro. In which they eventually emerged has winner.
I feel truly inspired watching Iceland playing soccer, and this is what the worldcup is all about, it’s not about who has the biggest economy to buy the best players, it’s about how United a nation is and how wel they play together.
Of course it is very helpful with star players like Messi and Ronaldo, but like Iceland prove, hard work and teamwork can be a winning concept !
