He has always given this amount of money to all of his followers every single month. This amount of money may not seem much to you. But it does help a lot of people. You can call it spam or whatever, but @scottcbusiness is helping people by doing this. So what if he attaches a message saying that he is a witness now, Like I said he does this every month and has been for a while. Quick question, my dear friend, when was the last time you gave any of what you have away? I promise that I am not trying to be mean or spiteful, I am just trying to let you know that he really didn't mean to be spammy. This is just his way of trying to help everybody out. If this is something that he is not supposed to do as a witness, he was probably unaware, or he wouldn't have done it. In any case, I hope that you have a wonderful day. And I send you and all of yours all of my love until we meet again. And I also asked that our creator bless you all. ☺
Thanks for sticking up for me and clarifying. You are exactly right, there was no malicious intent and considering people are in control of whether or not they receive it I wouldn't have classified it as spam.
Thanks :) And I agree, if projects like Steem Messager are ever going to work, we have to be very open to using memos as messaging. It's the only form of native messaging atm.
Correct - is it the proposal that a message will cost some sbd to send? If so, I expect it will not find much traction. There is another issue I think - if there were more granular control available over the trending page - if it worked more along the lines of other platforms, I think people would not have the need to send out messages like a bulletin as users would be more likely to see whatever they consider to be relevant. For the moment though, using the memo as a bulletin board is just par for the course - as much as the complaints are I guess. I can see the outcry coming from higher powered accounts were the memo/wallet page is crucial to their lives on steemit. For me though, the transactions are less frequent. Still, I think it is a storm in a tea-cup and most likely motivated by other reasons than concerns about spam. From where I sit, it needs to be explained to me how this is spam - and then I shrug my shoulders because spam doesn't bother me in the main. What bothers me more is bullying and economic terrorism where sharks try to keep others from coming up in the ranks.
Yeah I 100% agree and currently because we use memos as a bulletin, deterring that is just another way to shut us down from coming up the ranks. As long as it is blatant and I think you shouldn't just message anyone (as that would be spam for sure) I think messaging your followers is more than reasonable. And it's not cheap either lol
It worked on me, firstly it drew me to your page & it still could have went several ways, Then the post was actually decent so it earned you an upvote, On further reading I found out that you're a witness with something to offer & I didn't have to find you because you found me, well played that got you a witness vote. Then I read on in greater depth & saw how you had been helping newbies on the platform. You wouldn't of known that I'm on the team of @newbieresteemday & that was going to earn you a resteem.
Marketing strategies work, well played Scott.
Wow true, that's awesome! I was a marketer before I was a witness :P But again like you basically said it comes down being genuine too. It's just like on trending, if you see a post that's got a huge payout and it sucks, that seems wrong and sketchy, whereas if it's really quality, then it seems fair. I appreciate you voting for me and resteeming and giving me your support! I'm about to drop a discussion post about memoing soon! :)
I prefer supporting up and coming witnesses in the hope they will bring fresh approaches to the platform and listen to opinions beyond the large sharks that dominate things at the moment. We support you today, don't forget us tomorrow.
Yeah I guess that's always the issue eh. Well I rely on all your support and I will not take it for granted! That's why I make so many posts about educating minnows and trying to represent the little people and bring that fresh take you mentioned
0.001 SBD helps people? That'll only help him right now ;-)
He wants to be wittness (or is currently), then he should also be careful not to spam the network. These are clearly spamer tactics. he could have just written a post or build his community in other ways.
This tactic threatens the network, you wonder why your bandwidth is going down? because of such actions. this also concerns you, too and all of us. he's wittness, then he knows that.
I mean the difference is, it's spam if it's unsolicited and unwanted. That is what spam is. Because you are in control of receiving it by unfollowing me. It isn't spam. It's like you subscribing to a newsletter by following me. I honestly don't think that once a month these transactions threaten the blockchain. It may not extremely "help" people, but it positively impacts a lot of people and yes it helps me share my content, HOWEVER... most of my content is written to help and educate and I am mostly targetting minnows so I'm not profiting or doing it to be malicious. I've done this ever since I started and only you and one other person have ever complained. This leads me to believe the sentiment towards this is positive. Like I said I will make a post where we can all discuss it and if people make it clear that this is an issue I will stop. You can make your case on that post.
I've personally never had a problem with bandwidth. I don't think I've ever seen mine below 90%. And personally AND HUMBLY, I believe, if this tiny of an action threatens the network, I'd say what a weak network to begin with. I do see your point, and I understand where you are coming from. I guess my question is... Was it okay when he did it before, just not now specifically because he's a witness. I am still relatively new here so I ask questions not to anger anyone, but just to learn. Over the course of the last couple of weeks I've really had my eyes open to alot of the problems Steemit has. At first I thought it was this wonderful Community that was going to usher in the future of social Everything...any more, half the time I seriously consider abondoning ship.😞
One last thing to note.... I'm curious as to how my monthly more or less informational or just a little boost of gratitude type memos are an issue but witnesses running extremely profitable bid bots who send actual spam promotional messages out daily and sometimes even more than once a day. They know very well and in those situations it's purely spam and purely selfish. Thoughts?
I used to run a service that did what you are doing with mass memos to followers. It was a no self-vote promoter service called @trump3t which I intend to eventually revive. The project lines up with the whitepaper in regard to the prisoner dilemma but I digress.
It's difficult for those of us who rely on no-self voting or not self-botting to be noticed so I understand your resorting to using Steem's messaging. If I may make one recommendation, if you are using scripting to perform these mass messages, perhaps include an opt out option for your followers in the message. I think this may help you. I am willing to assist in scripting that if you need help. Of course, I would ask that I be compensated for my time but I am glad to help.
There are a lot of witnesses that are perpetuating a network with elements that hinder the sustainability of Steem and I do think we need new perspectives. I have been following you and will keep monitoring your progress. Currently, my witness slots are full but that is always subject to change. ;)
Yeah true I'd definitely be open to paying you to help me script that. I do use a script and I figure if people are following me that's the opt in but if you can code a more effective version of that I'd be totally about it!
Once a month I send out a mass memo to my followers. I understand some may view it as spam, but I've made that point clear to my followers time and time again. If you feel you're being spammed you can unfollow me. If you feel I'm misrepresenting the network by doing this when there are actual abuses and issues to fix and deal with, don't vote for me as a witness. I respect everyone's rights and opinions. I personally feel that because I only message my followers, they've opted into this. Given I limit it to once a month I feel that it is a fair use of the bandwidth I allocate with my Steem power. I will make a post opening up mass memoing for discussion and you can contribute to it soon! 99% of people are extremely thankful, it makes their day, and only a very small handful are offended by this from my experience.
It's NO spam when sent as a token of gratitude. I have been following you for a while so i know a transaction coming from you isn't spam. Coming from another "resteem" service yes but you no!
Thanks for sticking up for me haha, I think it's important that we don't deter people from using memos at all given they basically are the only form of messaging. I'm sure this whole thing can be solved with communities or a native chat etc. in the future
I'm not following you. but I've seen the load you've produced
The problem is not that you write messages with transactions. Its the how you do it. you run your script like a squirrel on lsd. Instead of thinking, "hey how can i not burden the network so much".
You want to be wittness, think about how to stabilize the network, how to distribute the messages. Distribute your messages, instead of 100 every second to 100 every minute.
You want to be a good wittness? Then stop stressing the network. Again, the problem is the how, not the what.
like I said its like for a few minutes once a month. It's the program that I'm using written by another witness lol. If you can point me to a better script I'll use it, but considering you're the only one who seems to have an issue with it and everyone else is asking I don't stop. I'm not trying to stress the network, but honestly it's hardly the issue. Like I said there are many bots owned by many witnesses that send tons of messages unsolicited daily.
ok this is the last comment. i just don't have the time to discuss back and forth. i pointed it out and well :-)
change your script, insert a delay and everything is great :-)
some german channels have been talking about it, but I think you can go to all the chanels and ask "hey, I do 100 to 1000 transactions a second. Is that good?" and you'll get the same answer everywhere that you spam with it.
go to pal, utopian, busy, steem cleaner and so on ... I don't think anybody likes that.
you know what you can change, I wish you every success for the future.

I don't find it annoying frankly. I see your small transaction as a message more than an enticement to support you.
Thanks :) And I agree, if projects like Steem Messager are ever going to work, we have to be very open to using memos as messaging. It's the only form of native messaging atm.

That's rough man, I think if we stick it out and help impact and influence it like I'v been trying we can make it something amazing like we envisioned

Sorry what do you mean / what is this referring to from the article?
... 😑
Honestly? as wittness you are responsible for making the network stable.
THATS the opposite. really. this is spamming ...

i am not the only one, in the discord were some comments. if this happens more, you will get more comments.
Just pay better attention please and learn how to program. If you can't do that, hire one.
I guess I'll have to, I've done this for months. I didn't see anything, in what discord?
