Unfairness hidden behind complexity and good intentions
I noticed something strange some time ago, unfortunately I jumped the gun with my resteem but then again it brought more attention to the "project" so it was okay. Basically there was a person who had set up an account to help aid Venezuelan authors as I'm sure most here on Steem know by now the crisis situation they have over there with hyper inflation, corruption, etc. Anyway, the project in question felt a bit odd at first glance already, but I figured it must just be a coincidence, either way I kept reading more.
After I had read everything I asked him a few questions since he was asking for more delegations, an important question was what was being done with the steem power on the account. He said something along the lines of "it will keep being powered up" which doesn't really say anything about it, so I asked if he would consider powering down some of the weekly curation rewards to aid the authors even more and he mentioned that "maybe" in the end if the project stops he would consider giving some away.
I got a bit triggered by this, not just cause of the upcoming changes of 50/50 but it obviously meant he will just keep them for himself, while asking for more delegations. But okay, if people want to delegate who am I to complain, right? Well, I dug a bit deeper. It turned out that what the project entailed was basically just autovoting some authors, the user didn't even speak the language I noticed in a comment so there was no real curation going on and as a manual curator that triggered me even more. I just wanted to forget about it at that point but for some reason I went to check on steemd and there I saw something that pushed me past the point of no return. The account was selling votes through smarsteem (for those who don't know, smartsteem lets you sell votes without delegating to it by directing your votes to buyers) and after I noticed the account had even received delegations by venezuelans, there was no turning back for me anymore or forgiving it. Didn't matter he said "it's to grow the account faster" or "it's just that not many are posting at the moment", then why the fuck are you asking for more delegations if whatever you have right now is too much already?
I ended up downvoting the post and never looked back after leaving a last comment.
It's just frustrating that there are some people hiding behind "good intentions" when all they're doing is just growing their own stake, especially in a case like this where people are literally starving and just because they may not understand the platform fully they think it's helping them.
Anyway, I decided to do something about it, I remembered a very active Venezuelan Steemian who's been amazing at interacting - don't wanna drop names just yet - but I am working on a way to create a much fairer project, possibly connecting it to OCD and not taking a 50% cut like in that case or in other similar cases some curation projects are unfortunately still operating in this day and age. It is sad but greed and selfishness exists everywhere, I guess being behind a monitor and cashing out that money without giving a second thought at the people you are letting down is easy to do for some people.
I have hope that with more people on our platform the good will start to outweigh the bad and that with the new rules of the ecosystem we will notice the bad even better and act upon it. I am looking forward to that future where everyone can feel the advantages of blockchain and the fairness it can bring you - if you give some back by working for it.
Yeah it's pretty sickening indeed. In a world where there is an abundance of food, the price for greed and selfishness comes at the expense of someone else's pain and suffering. Eye opening.
I like that you've been so vigilant after the hard fork. Vote selling and autos left unchecked could spell disaster for Steem in the long run. It's my opinion that anyone who runs autos or sells votes should be actively inspecting the posts their accounts vote automatically. There are a shitload of autos active with dead accounts. Abuses are rampant. I guess I'm gonna have to start downvoting, and I really was hoping I wouldn't have to, but I love Steem, so I must protect what I love.
Thanks for your contributions to Steem. Keep up the great work @acidyo!
Dear @futuremind
I would like to recommend reading comment by @achim03 (below). It's sad that someone with his reputation, person who is trying to help others and putting his own time and efforts on the line is being "bashed" here.

Well done acid. I recall that post you refer to and read your etc also. It's a sad fact that many unscrupulous people hide behind charity or good deeds with the sole intention of keeping fund for themselves. The real world is full of it making it a tough decision to know who/what to support.
Well done to you on this, and for following up with something tangible and valid.
Gold 🌟 and big ✅ 🤓😊

Yeah, felt like I should at least create something that fills that void and maybe we'll find some good new curators who'll do a good job at it at the same time. Let's see how things go.
I'll support.

I saw something very similar happening on the blockchain. Same thing, someone asking for delegations and then instead of growing the account, regularly powering down and withdrawing Steem for themselves. No communication with supporters, no explanation, nothing. Needless to say, I want nothing to do with them. I didn't end up saying anything because I was so very disgusted that anything I would have said would not have been nice. I can only hope that people's behaviour will be influenced in a positive way, with the new changes. Steem has a lot of potential. I believe in that potential, that's why I am here. We can do some great things together!
I think anyone looking to help Venezuelan users would do well to buy them SBI! It's already a proven system that offers long term sustainable rewards fairly.

Sounds like a smart way of going about it actually and you win too, since you get some shares yourself!
Meh, I don't like that system much tbh, voting up comments is annoying when you're reading through the comment section and brainlessly voting on posts isn't that much better.
To your first point, I don't understand. What voting up comments do you mean?
As far as brainlessly voting, well, you can choose only to sponsor authors that you trust to produce good content.

The @sbd0-9 accounts that keep voting up comments.
That's not SBI. I don't know what sbd0 is

Sorry I meant @sbi like this one: https://steemd.com/@sbi2
It's upvoting comments? SBI is only designed to upvote comments if the user hasn't posted a top level post in more than 7 days. I'm surprised that there are that many users like that! I haven't noticed that happening much (I have one Punday Monday participant who doesn't seem to do much else on Steem except interact with people he thinks are funny by commenting on their posts, and since he wins SBI in my contests sometimes, his comments do get that. But he's the only one I've noticed), but I suppose we run in different circles, you and I.
i get upvoted by sbi on comments as i stopped posting. it annoys me sometimes as puts me top of the list when my comments are usually crap

Among other things, how is the witness doing for you?
I guess everyone is a slave to something ... fame, money, propaganda, publicity, self actuality, ...
Here are two advice for you:
1- We need logicians, not populists. Sensationalism will do more harm than good to the community, and it's usually obvious when someone is using it to portray himself as a hero.
2- If you want to announce something (project, initiative, ...), don't use an altar ;)
I have no idea what you just said.
What witness?
What's an altar?
Congratulations @acidyo! You have completed the following achievement on the Steem blockchain and have been rewarded with new badge(s) :

Was it @chinotattooart and one of his alt accounts? I think everyone knows about his scams at this point tho.
Haha nah not that spammer. I even offered him curation support if he would just return the steem he "borrowed" from people, my votes would've easily paid it all back but then it turns out even has art was plagiarised. xD
Yeah, I knew from the beginning he was up to something weird and started warning people about him... He still owns a friend of mine 10$ worth of steem he "borrowed" kek!
That's a lot more Steem now than then. xD
Yep thats why I especified 10$ worth of steem and not just 10 bucks lol
Do you mean SBD with bucks tho?
I was talking in crypto so it could be sbd but I bet he would prefer getting his money back in Steem!
:p I'm just fooling around.
