This Week's Prompt
At the Club
by @zeldacroft
The club lights flashed and waved to the beating music. They washed the dancefloor in neon colors, in time to the heavy vibrations of the giant speakers. Surprisingly, Toby admired the bright lights, how they illuminated the huge space and modern architecture. Though he found himself nursing a headache at the bar.
Jan from accounting had organized the “bonding time” for the office, saying how it’d bring everyone closer together. Toby had been devoid of any good excuse, so now he was stuck between a beer, clubbers, and Jan, with her volume louder than the pounding speakers.
“And so that’s when I said, ‘Kevin, that’s the wrong variable!’” She snorted in laughter at her own joke. Toby managed a smile. “You see, he made a simple mistake!”
“No, I get it. I think Susan’s around here somewhere, she’d appreciate hearing it too.”
“That’s a good idea, but I can tell her on Monday!”
Toby took another drink. He liked Jan well-enough at work, but tonight was proving a little more difficult.
“That does bring up a good point, though. I haven’t seen many people from the office here." Scanning the room, she asked, "Do you think they're stuck in traffic?”
“Yeah, maybe,” Toby answered, knowing full well it was more a case of empty promises. Still, there was something about the disappointment in her eyes that struck him. “But hey, you got some of us here.”
She gave a small smile and looked around again, this time lingering towards the lights.
“Hey, let’s go dance!”
Before Toby could gently protest, she’d swept him onto the floor, beer and all.
My Continuation
The Weekend Memory
by @myrockandocean
Sunday morning came and nobody knew what really happened. The dance and the booze, they were blurry. The only thing they knew for sure was that nobody went home that night.
Jan was somehow throwing up at Jack’s bathroom by noon. “How did I ended up here?”, she asked Jack, her colleague at the accounting department. Jack was not very helpful as he was so high too he couldn’t even stand up. Jan was determined to walk home after yelling at Jack for hiding her car key. Jack kept telling her that he didn’t have it, but Jan was out the door instantly.
Toby ended up sleeping on the beach. He knew he wasn’t alone when they got there but he couldn’t remember anything. He searched into his pocket and found a nice key that doesn’t belong to him. He pushed one out of the three buttons and a blue Audi parked near by just beeped. “Nice!”, he thought to himself. He didn’t have any headache or anything like what he suffered before. He knew something happened but he just didn’t know what was it.
Jan walked in a rush trying to navigate her way home. It wasn’t far and she still remembered it well from couple of years back when she used to date Jack. It was very convenient that they lived only 20 mins from each other. They used to go on a picnic in a nice little park in the neighborhood, feeding the ducks with breadcrumbs even though it was forbidden to do so. She finally realized why she knocked on his door last night.
Toby jumped into the nice blue car which somehow looked familiar. The interior was super clean and smelled like jasmine. He knew that perfume from somewhere. He checked the navigation history and found the address of his friend Jack. They played squash together every Tuesday night. He didn’t remember seeing Jack at the bar yesterday. He didn’t even see him at all. So why did he go to his place before heading to the beach?
Monday morning came. Everyone looked like they just run through hell. Jack still got hangover, but was happy that he got back together with his longtime love. Jen was so upset that she misplaced her car she loved so much. And, Toby, he planned to go back to the beach after work, and to that blue car that he left there, trying to figure out the missing links.
Love from us x
Photo taken by the beach before sunrise. Happy Friday everyone!
A little mystery and a touch of romance. What more could you ask of a story?
Well done.
Oh thank you @deirdyweirdy, you’re so kind! 🙏🏽

I am so happy I have never had a night like this one. I don't have a lot of hope for Jack and Jen, Toby has Jen's car. I do wonder what will happen if anyone does every put the pieces together.
Nice work! You're really getting the hang of this and I'm really glad you have been writing with us.
I agree! (with all that @owasco said)
Your writing is a welcome addition to #freewritehouse, @myrockandocean.

Question - what is your native tongue? And do you write in English, or translate to English when you are done? This is not a complaint, your English is very good,
I am an Indonesian (native tongue), living in Paris (my husband is French). I got some struggles with prompt sometimes, as to how to quote and how to narate things... I didn’t have any background in writing, but now very interested doing this 😊
Oh I write directly in English. I don’t really write stories in Indonesian/French.
