Competition: #welcometosteemit - CLOSED. THANK YOU!
The time has come to submit your entries below for the #welcometosteemit competition!
Hello everyone
The initial post remit was to 'create a uplifting Post, worthy of hitting Trending that would best suit a new visitor to steemit.com'
I'd really like to see at least one (but the more the merrier) positive and killer article regarding steem/steemit hit trending. An article, that if I was a new visitor to the site which would make me think, 'hey this place looks pretty sweet!', 'perhaps I should register and get involved', 'this place could change the world!'.
A huge thank you to the resteemers of this post for spreading the word: @alfiandaud, @alyana, @ankarlie, @bec-on-the-block, @beeyou, @callahan, @davemccoy, @denmarkguy, @enjar, @fiesoerensen, @filnette, @gillianpearce, @glenalbrethsen, @helenoftroy, @holbein81, @jasonbu, @jillann08,, @josephlacsamana, @jusipassetti, @karencarrens, @katrina-ariel, @kid4life, @legendchew, @maverickinvictus, @mediahousent, @meno, @mountainjewel, @mrday, @newbiegames, @palikari123, @paulag, @phoenixwren, @revisesociology, @rubencress, @simba001, @simplymike, @sistem, @steem77, @steemdump, @surfermarly, @taministy, @therneau, @ugetfunded, @v4vapid, @wolfhart, @xposed, @yestermorrow, @zuckerzombie
And I really hope that some of you guys have either produced a post, or are around to help me review the entries!
I have no idea how this is going to pan out, but I hope that people are ready and waiting to submit their Post (now!), and put a link to it in the comments.
Using the tags #steemit and in particular, #welcometosteemit will hopefully help the reviewers get around the entries easier.
I think that commenting here (where there is a 5 SBD bounty to be shared) under the comment of the submitted post saying 'this one is awesome', or 'my favourite', and maybe a small up-vote of acknowledgement will help us decide which one/s to push.
For the best chance to hit 'Trending', which I again conceed is pretty unlikely, the votes need to be focused. Hopefully, a fairly unnanimous decision can be made in the first 30/60 minutes, so the chosen posts can be pushed into 'Hot', and perhaps gain some more attention and organic votes from there.
@yabapmatt, the owner of @postpromoter has offered to 'help promote' a post 'if it is good'. Thanks Matt - hopefully we have something to his liking as that will obviously really help.
I will give votes to all the decent entries, and a 100% vote to the best one or two. So that means the other $300 odd needs to come from you guys - no pressure :)
The 1000 delegated SP and 20 SBD prizes will come later tonight / tomorrow.
I really hope that some of these posts do well, even if they don't reach the top of the pile.
I've added the #comedyopenmic tag following a discussion with @dj123, if your post is humorous (not essential, don't worry!) then it might be an idea to change a tag. Cheers @dj123!
Thank you in advance for taking part in this experiment. I have spoken with an entrant who stated that writing a post for this competition helped them find their 'passion again for Steem' - Super glad to hear this, and I hope this feeling is one shared by many today.
Submit your posts and/or put your reading glasses on now!
(We've already had some entries, check #welcometosteemit for details, go!)
Cheers
Asher @abh12345
If you feel that the Curation Leagues are a worthwhile addition to the Steem Blockchain, please consider a vote for our witness - @steemcommunity - https://steemit.com/~witnesses
That's awesome work @abh12345
When I first came to Steemit, someone suggested me to read this guide by @ethandsmith
https://steemit.com/steemit/@ethandsmith/the-beginner-s-guide-to-steemit-part-6-voting
I think new users would like to see such guides about how to use Steemit.
Thank you!
That's an extensive and decent guide he's put out. Cheers.
i love this @abh12345! we've been cooking up our post; the vlog/blog combo based on your inspiration. We are so glad you're doing this as we think it's a very positive contest for steem and our communities!
here's ours :)
What a great post! I always love your posts, though. The personal perspective is compelling. Haven't had time to watch the vid yet (my usual excuse—kids) but this is an excellent welcome to newcomers.

@abh12345 has set 5.000 SBD bounty on this post! What is a bounty exactly?
A bounty is money sent to a post to be distributed to the users commenting on it. It provides a way to reward users directly and works in addition to the steem/sbd they receive from the blockchain. It works independently of SteemPower.
You create a bounty by sending any amount of sbd/steem to @steem-bounty together with a post-url in the memo.
How can I earn a bounty Users are then competing for the bounty by writing their answers to the post in comments that will achieve upvotes from the community and especially the bounty creator. The money of the bounty gets distributed to all top level comments of the post at the same time when the post is paid out (7 Days after it was written). How much everyone gets depends on the votes the comments received. The sender of the bounties votes are weighted higher so that she decideds where 80% of the bounty money goes and all other votes determine the rest.@steem-bounty does all of this for you automatically. You can use this service to automatically pay out a challenge, ask a hard question or simply to reward the people that interact with you.
Read more about how it works, even in different languages here.
EVERYONE
(Sorry steem-bounty for hijacking your thread)
I'm going to need a bit longer to go through them all again, but if you could stick a small vote/comment on your favorites and i'll use that as a guide)
The quality is fking awesome, thank you!!
I just saw your new Ned caption ...I had to comment, lol. 😂
Hello @abh12345 great initiative!
This is our welcome to Steemit post:
https://steemit.com/welcometosteemit/@promo-mentors/welcome-to-steemit-the-new-age-of-social-media
Excellent intro post, thank you!
Well made, was a new member myself i find this useful! :)
Good to hear atleast it was useful to one person till now! :)
Hi Ash,
Was really busy yesterday, I tried to curate and give some upvotes, also here, hope it helps.
So what happened, did any big whales showed up to help anyone reach trending, how many post was there all together.
some thoughts, this 12hour window to curate isn't much....I think might be good to time this (next time) so we smash the love during the weekend. This way busy folks that work will have more time to help out to curate, I covered only 4-5 post yesterday (Monday madness IRL), so I tried to giving some fat love 50-100% to those I saw.
Hope you had fun doing this!
Hey
Yeah it was intense! Perhaps a longer window for future stuff like this, I wanted the boosted posts to be fresh to have the best chance in Hot and Trending.
The whales didn't show up, but @yabapmatt stuck a nice @postpromoter bid on the chosen one by @mountainjewel and it has reached Trending.
Loads of great entries though, and I think overall it went pretty well.
Cheers for the support!
Here's my post for your competition Asher:
https://steemit.com/welcometosteemit/@davemccoy/the-party-is-just-getting-started-welcome-to-steemit-everyone
Great examples included here Dave, thank you!
I tried to do my best, I love the concept and definitely wanted to support this idea! And thank you Asher, for attempting to make a difference!
Love the post Dave! It's a great one @abh12345, although it's the first one I read haha
lol... thank you Lynn and I'm really glad you liked it! I think you and Brian are a story that showcase what is right with this world!
I do too! And if I hadn't waited until last minute and then gotten sick, I would have wrote the same thing :) I'm still in awe of it all Dave!
Hi read mine too :D Check mine if you have a time. thanks!

This is a great explanation @davemccoy, you hit on some highlights with still the best yet to come. The community is what you make of it, and you sir have made it quite a place in not even 6 months on here. I like the selling of the tangible and the non-tangible both in this post. Continue the great work and we can help add some more highlights to that reel!
I really wish steemit was more sold to the masses as something that this post demonstrates. It has many solid points from dreams come true (I can think of home ownership for many in low cost countries), and great examples of pillars of community that really help shape this place up for newcomers. It will be interesting to see what kind of world problems get solved over time with the power this place has.
I like your focus on people whose lives were changed for the better. This is a real "draw people in" kind of post.
What an awesome Welcome post! It’s great you highlighted both the community and blogging aspects of this platform. There are so many examples you gave on communities coming together from helping newbies with @newbieresteemday to another group of folks I enjoy hanging out with at @comedyopenmic, to all other big groups out there like @curie and @ocd.
I hope Asher doesn’t mind, but I gave my full upvote since the post is exceptionally written. 🙂
Congrats on your own entry, Dave!
The party's getting started - oh yeah :-)
Awesome that you featured @hickorymack's story here. This was probably one of the most hear-warming things that ever happened on steemit. And which proves that the hype is so real!
That was a very impressive post. I liked it a lot, the stories used to tell about steemit, and the professional look to the post with well used graphics and spacing, it looks really great.
Very nicely themed and formatted... great info and style!
This post brought a tear to my eye, and I think this kind of success story/heart connection is a compelling reason for people to join Steemit and stick around!
Count me in on your steemy ride! :-)
--> The Revised American Dream
Totally awesome as I suspected it would be!
Thank you, Asher :-) Hearing it from you means a lot!!
It feels a little too predictable voting for an upbeat @surfermarly post, but it is a good post, does make you want to feel part of it (the steem experience that is!) or glad to be in it....
Ticks the boxes above for sure, in a super-authentic way.
Haha, nothing is predictable in the crypto world :-))
But thanks for your NICE feedback, Karl. I really appreciate it!
Hopefully it'll bring some fresh traffic from the outside to steemit though...
This one was very well-rounded, I like it! I was just thinking reading through the articles, some of us focused on being "explainers," and some on being "inspirers." You hit that middle ground rather nicely.
I totally wrote this comment on the article too, but I wanted to give it a "vote" here as well!
Great explanation of the Steem platform! Everyone has The American Dream and some have reached this dream on the platform.
Fantastic post. If I were just beginning Steemit I think this would sell me on it and get me started off on the right foot. Also, promising to share the delegation solidifies my vote! 💖
great one, @surfermarly! really enjoyed your post :)
Thank you very much @mountainjewel!!!
This is an excellent piece, I'm happy you joined and made this project of Asher's top notch!
Thank you so much Dave! I really appreciate your compliment :-)
Asher's idea was simply brilliant and I'm happy to be part of it.
Love The American Dream premise ! This is another great one @abh12345!!
Sweet! Thank you so much @lynncoyle1 :-)
you are most welcome :)
My entry.

Cheers everyone
Epic! Thank you!
Thanks! And you are welcome, mate
Great entry @solcross; so glad that you joined in and I'm honored that you included me in your post!
Thanks for your kind words, @lynncoyle1. Keep on enjoying your weekend.
You are so welcome! I'm hoping the same fore you :)
Here's my contribution: https://steemit.com/steemit/@helenoftroy/what-i-like-most-about-being-a-steemian-or-the-best-thing-about-steemit
I would love to stay up and review others' but it's 2am and I've got twin 1-year-olds who will be up and ready to go in 5 hours! So I'll check back in then and try to do what I can to support this endeavor.
Thanks for caring about Steemit @abh12345!
Good post that sheds light on how important your username/brand is.
Thanks so much for taking time to read it @jusipassetti! I really appreciate your comment too :)
Thank you @helenoftroy, got everything I wanted here!
Great! I'm so happy you got a lot of contributions! @mountainjewel did a great job!!
This one is awesome... I just wonder if an individual coming from another social platform would be 'hooked'
Thanks @therneau! I think @mountainjewel did a much better job of promoting Steemit as an alternative to other social media platforms. I wasn't really thinking of that angle since I use both - one to keep up with family back in the States and the other to engage with good content. But I think it would've been better if I had kept that in mind!
I didn't read mountainjewels' post. Kinda ran out of time. I'll have a squiz at that.
I enjoyed your post. It was a good read and I'm glad you appreciate the feedback :)
+1 for making it a 100% powerup post to try and get bigger votes in on it. Decent length and to the point. Nice intro to easy a new user in. I like how you provide examples of what steemit is really about –community.
Thank you for your encouraging comment @enjar! I appreciate you taking the time to read and review my post!
You did a wonderful job here @helenoftroy! I like you post a lot! Especially this part which I definitely agree with you on:
Very good job and happy to see you participate in this terrific project!
Wow! Thank you @davemccoy! This means a lot coming from the third-place contributor!! :D Congratulations by the way!
In case I get distracted (which happens with twins) :P and forget to comment on your post ... I really enjoyed how you divided up your post and I thought you did a great job expanding on the community aspect of Steemit with specific examples :)
:) ... thank you very much for the compliment on my post and I think we both did a good job of showing why this is a place with some terrific people and a heck of a lot of potential!... and no worries about replying back over there! I know how it is to be slammed, especially with children! Have a nice evening and again great work! :)
This is awesome @helenoftroy! Nice work :)
Thank you so much @lynncoyle1! :D
Here is my entry to this amazing contest

Very nice introduction post.
