Black Mirror: You need to watch this show

in #tv7 years ago (edited)

I was first presented this show by a British friend... which i suppose is suitable seeing as how it has almost entirely British writers. This show might be the best thing ever made into a TV show and have a run for the best thing behind "Game of Thrones" and "Breaking Bad."

I don't expect you to know anything about this show because i knew nothing upon watching the first episode of the show either. I only watched it because i was bored. However, what came after was the same thing that made me like Korean thriller movies. It is haunting.

We all use technology: Sometimes i think we can all agree that we use it too much. It becomes every part of our life. There is a good chance that you are reading these words on a mobile device that you could definitely wait just a little while in order to get it done once you get home....

This is what Black Mirror is about. The entire program is written by different people each time but the prevailing theme seems to be for us to take notice about how we allow technology to completely control our lives.

Think about it:

Do you have kids? Are they not currently using your phone to play a game to keep them occupied?

Do you have crypto? Are you not looking at it all the time to check if it has changed ever-so-slightly?

Are you a human (in today's time) and if you have a slight lull in activity be it a taxi, a queue (dumb word) or any other point in time that you have to wait just for a little while .... are you not looking at Facebook? Just to pass the time?

Do you not use some method of smartphone to record every interesting thing you see? or thing you need to remember?

Chances are.... you are doing these things..... and that is where Black Mirror shows you a horrible glimpse into the future. Technology (or techmology as Ali-G calls it) is becoming increasingly all-encompassing.... and i like that they are able to at least look into the future a bit and scare us about how dependent we are becoming on it.

There is an episode of this series (it might actually be season 1 episode 2) that shows that all people (at least in the snippet of the "world" that we are allowed to see) are made to ride stationary bikes in order to power something for the sake of getting "mertis." They then are allowed to do certain things with these merits including to TURN OFF ADVERTISEMENTS that are very intrusive into their lives by LCD screens that are everywhere they go.

Does any of this sound familiar because it is exactly what our lives are becoming?

This episode is called "15 million merits" by the way and i strongly encourage you to find it.

It is episode 2 of season one of the series. You should skip episode one as it nearly made me not want to watch any of the others. I was unaware that the episodes would not be connected in any sort of flowing fashion.

This is a poorly written article because I had to leave my house. I'm sorry. The next one will be better... But please, watch Black Mirror, it is an exceptional series.

Sort:

The Black Mirror series is possibly one of the best shows that I've ever seen. It is defiantly up there with all the classics. It is a must watch. Great article

Hey friend, thanks for the update.

Indeed, the whole world is becoming technology dependant, their is almost nothing we do without technology in this generation.
I'm from Nigeria and I use my phone to do everything I'm doing online, due to failure in power supply, each time my phone is out of battery, it seems I don't belong here again. Everything looks bored.... Smile

I'm hearing about Black MIrror for the first time, but the creativity behind it sound interesting already. I hope to get some of their videos on YouTube.

Indeed, you are becoming more careful than ever before, despite you writing from a different place rather than your house, probably on phone too, I can't still pick a single error.

Weldon! Smile

I'm kinda busy today, that's why you don't see much of my presence on your posts. I hope to make it up tomorrow.... Smile

you still post longer replies than most people. You are definitely not a bot! I went to an island the other day with friends and accidentally left my phone at home. It was very liberating.

Oh, thanks for yet another complement, it mean a lot to me.

I'm sure you had such a nice time out. It's a pity you accidentally left your phone at home, but I'm sure you will still find means (probably through your friend's phone) of taking some nice pictures in the Iceland.

Can't wait to read about your experience over their with some cool pictures like you always do.

Thanks for always been one of the reasons I'm finding steemit interesting. Hug

Twilight Zone for a generation. There is so much awesomeness and confusion in this show. I fuckin love it and have re-watched all of it. Cant wait for the next season. My favorite was "Hated by the Nation".

I wouldn't say it was poorly written although it is not the standard you normally write, it is quite good. "Black Mirror" would be a haunting season to watch looking at your brief description, if there's anything human fears, is the future and you're telling me this series gives a glimpse of the alternate futures which we could be heading in right now? Well i love Korean Movies and you already said is like comparable to them so i guess i would have to take a look at it. I only hope am not scared to the point of stopping the use of technology, haha. Thanks for the post man

What do you mean you had to leave your house in the middle of post construction.?! Haha. I can't seem to find the time to put together a decent post. I start and get pulled away or have the idea and not the time..I forget what it was anyhow.

Black Mirror sounds quite interesting. I am attached to my devices, but when I see my wife .. doing like you said .. I laugh and say I'm not doing that. No Way! So instead of texting my friends, I write them all letters and send them snail mail. ummm yea, I'm a LIAR! I do put that stuff away and make time to be creative. Plus all the scrolling makes me motion sick. No clue if that happens to anyone else.

So non of the episodes pick up where the other left off or evolve across a rolling plot? Sweet! I enjoy those the most. I don't get too invested that way. I'll put down my phone later and watch some!! lol.

yes dude, you should definitely check it out. Just an amazing series and I have only ever spoken to one person who didn't like it. Again, skip episode 1 of season 1. I nearly stopped watching the whole thing because of that one and they changed directions after that episode.

One of my ultimate favorite shows. Sometimes i even have to stop in the middle of the show to think and get my sh*t together ahah... truly an amazing, curious and interesting series!

yes. The series really makes you think. I like something more than just mindless entertainment.

We all use technology: Sometimes i think we can all agree that we use it too much. It becomes every part of our life. There is a good chance that you are reading these words on a mobile device that you could definitely wait just a little while in order to get it done once you get home....

OMG!!! That’s accurate, I was actually walking when I got the notification from Gina that one of my favorite following has posted and immediately I halted and have to read and make this comment before I proceed. We use too much technology I agree with you and the painful thing, we ignore the side effect of radioactivity { Electro Magnetic Radiation} .

This show is basically what’s happening to the world right now according to your description. It isn’t a boring show afterall

OMG! Black mirror. I totally love the series , and I vividly remember the second episode when it started airing. I think that was the episode people rode exercise bikes to power the surrounding and earn "merits" - like "steem" to buy food, goods, and even virtual stuff. And the character Bing, a merit millionaire who gained his wealth through inheritance, met and invited his crush Abi to the Hot Shot contest. ...I bet you know the rest of the story. I totally concord on the statement that humanity is becoming over dependent on technology, although technology is in actual sense isn't a bad thing - but how we use it may be bad or good. Over dependency on technology might even get worse in the future.

This show might be the best thing ever made into a TV show and have a run for the best thing behind "Game of Thrones" and "Breaking Bad."

For real????lol now this should be interesting

Chances are.... you are doing these things..... and that is where Black Mirror shows you a horrible glimpse into the future

Wow, this has always been a matter of concern to me, im even just having a conversation with my friend about how technology has taken the whole of us. Now this is one movie i will love to look forward to, i wake up to my phone and sleep by my phone, crazy

This is a poorly written article because I had to leave my house. I'm sorry. The next one will be better... But please, watch Black Mirror, it is an exceptional series

Haha even i am on the road, see technology?!

great reply friend. I hope you do watch the series though. Just remember to skip episode 1 of series 1. It is a truly wonderful (and frightening) show.

Lol, i will try my best, thank you so much

Wow sir @gooddream I think you and I are getting along. I have started watching this show. And one of my roommates told me that it is really awesome.
And this show it got me so excited after watching the first episode.
Shows like this, game of thrones, westworld and stranger things are really amazing and they set the bar for other series too high. Well I personally like game of thrones a lot more than anything haha.
Thanks a lot for sharing this post with us. I really like your work.

everyone likes Game of Thrones the best. because it is sooooo much better than the others :)

Yes well said so unpredictable and that is what makes it so much exciting.
