☀️The whole city of Amsterdam is sinking. The city was built on top of a swamp and constantly needs to be maintained to stay afloat.
💧There are over 11 million wooden poles holding the buildings up out from the water. However today homeowners seem to be opting for concrete replacement when the unfortunate and costly time of repair enters upon them.
🌳The average home is held up on 5 to 10 long wooden poles. The Royal Palace is balancing on over 13,500 poles.
🍄”If you are ever in Amsterdam, make sure to take a canal cruise. There are many companies and you can usually get a good deal with so much competition. The canal cruises are definitely a must. The entire cruise is and adventure and you get to learn so much in such a short amount of time. Love it.”🍄

It must be very expensive to maintain those houses, replacing them with concrete buildings would change Holland's heritage landscape. Great factual post. Thanks for taking the time to share with all.

@wwwdotgotodotmu, They'd just be replacing the foundation to cement from the current mud but yes quite expensive..
Obviously by real estate promoters looking to make a good buck. In a way an indirect tax for national heritage.

@michaeljn, Nice! I'd love to live here long term like that. You learn any Dutch in that time frame?
I had such a great time and being a student you can imagine just how much fun we had. lol
I speak Afrikaans a South African language which is a derivative of Dutch, the 2 languages are very similar.
So I could speak Afrikaans and they would understand and I could understand dutch because of Afrikaans, so it was fairly easy to communicate.
