What does it feel to be a boiled crab?

in #thoughts6 years ago (edited)

I woke up last night around 4 am and instead of trying to go back to sleep I had quite a few ideas which I researched on the phone:

  1. What would it cost for a person to go backpacking around Europe on foot?
  2. What would the distance be?
  3. How many days would it take to go on foot from Lithuania to, let's say, Portugal?
  4. How many days would it take to go on foot from Portugal to Norway?
  5. How much would it cost to buy a camper and a car and go travelling around Europe?
  6. I even checked the camping maps.
  7. Thought about hostels and their rates.
  8. Checked Airbnb's and their prices in various European countries.
  9. Calculated how much a monthly revenue should be from Steem in order to do that.
  10. Calculated how much this would mean per day.
  11. Thought about how many posts a day I should write then.
  12. Converted amount from USD to Steem.
  13. Compared Steem and Whaleshares prices.
  14. Decided that I should do more manual curation and commenting to grow my account.
  15. Resteemed @qurator's daily curation post so that I could read 5 different featured posts from there in the morning.
  16. Resteemed @curie's Daily Author Showcase post with the same intention.
  17. Bookmarked @bHive Curation Nation digest on Whaleshares
  18. Bookmarked @qurator's daily curation post on Weku

  20. Read and upvoted a few articles on Trybe.

It's weird because I know I would never backpack through Europe on foot or buy a camper. But it felt interesting to entertain the idea nonetheless. Especially at 4 am.

Naturally after so much phone use I couldn't go back to sleep even if I wanted. But it wasn't the time to get up yet so I closed my eyes and did manage to doze off a bit.

When the time came for me to jump out of bed and get ready to go to the university to play for the graduation ceremony, guess what my mental and physical condition was?

That's right. I felt like a boiled crab.

The only reason I'm glad about my nightly thoughts is because I can write about them here.

What should I have done instead? I think I could have went back to sleep if I just closed my eyes and forced myself to lie still in a comfortable position.

I know I have to work on my sense of willpower and not to give in to these distractions that easily, especially at night.

Has this ever happened to you at night? If so, what helped for you to go back to sleep? I would love to read your thoughts in the comments.

No, that doesn't happen to me but I do wake up in the morning with ideas. There's never enough time in the day so maybe I should develop your practice of using the night.

No... The night is best used to sleep... I think.

I had to giggle sorry... I had seen you responded back to nine people in the same way, with the same questions that you asked in your post. “Has this ever happened to you at night? If so, what helped for you to go back to sleep? I would love to read your thoughts in the comments.” This was hilarious to me at first, that you responded back them all in the same way, ( I mean I get why you did that , HA HA.) After all, you were asking a simple question on how do you get back to sleep, when you wake up in the middle of the night? But as I thought about it more, it saddened me because I could see that you never did get a response back from anyone of them, that might have some advice in the matter. There was really only two that really responded with thought, and discussed what this post was really about. And I felt that the others just looked at the cool comic, and didn’t read the actual post. And maybe it’s to much of a hassle for them if they have to go to google translate, I don’t know. Anyways, whatever the case may be, they are missing out on a fun post to read. Now I might be wrong, but it seemed to me like you where brilliantly taking a significant pole to see how many people actually read your post, your so clever HA HA 😂.
My daughter has a hard time keeping herself asleep at night, she’s had this problem her whole life. She listened to “instrumental only” meditation music, which you probably would love Vidas. And she has headphones and earplugs next to her always at night. There’s some fantastic meditation music on the enternet. Also I have a friend who is a musician and song writer, and he will wake up in the middle of the night with an idea of writing a song often. He has a notebook, pen and flashlight, next to his bedside always. Once he writes his ideas down he can go back to sleep, knowing he won’t forget them. If you can’t go back to sleep because your thinking to much about your idea, listening to the music and focusing deeply on it, this might help you go back to sleep 😴 💤 ❣️

Thanks again for your thoughtful reply! I wait for your comments with no less excitement than for a post of some favorite author. I wonder how many people you are making feel that way... I bet quite a few here on Steem. What about outside of Steem?

Having a pen, a notebook with a flashlight next to the bed is certainly better than having a phone. I see if I can dismiss these wandering thoughts tonight and perhaps simply stay with my eyes closed.

You are right, most of the commenters surely didn't even bother to read the post. So far none of them gave me a reply to my question which means only one thing: my gut feeling was right and they simply don't care.

It doesn't bother me though. People are too busy to care. And for every behavior there is always a reason, even if we don't know what it is yet.
