Sure, that is human nature, but over time there's definitely been a trend more towards tipping the balance gradually towards compassion over violence. (See: ourworldindata.org) We're still very much a work-in-progress with many flaws of course. But I'm sure you'd agree that whipping, chaining and murdering people is a LOT, lot worse than corporations today. I don't know how people would be like in the world of The Expanse, but my issue is that it's too contemporary. People's behaviours will certainly change, and I would like to have seen a different interpretation.
