Human nature always seems to end up with the focus on ego & power, but, offset by love & charity.
One theme notice in history is a recurring behaviour based on definitions and the limitations of those definitions.
Like in Imperial times, the King's & Queens claimed land, even land owned by "savages", where the King was bringing the uncivilized into the modern world.
Fast forward to today, and Corporations, are now the slave traders and masters.
Just because we don't whip, or chain people, we enslave people in different ways.
It could be seen by this line, humans must always have these negatove byproducts to our advancement.
Sure, that is human nature, but over time there's definitely been a trend more towards tipping the balance gradually towards compassion over violence. (See: ourworldindata.org) We're still very much a work-in-progress with many flaws of course. But I'm sure you'd agree that whipping, chaining and murdering people is a LOT, lot worse than corporations today. I don't know how people would be like in the world of The Expanse, but my issue is that it's too contemporary. People's behaviours will certainly change, and I would like to have seen a different interpretation.
