Diaries of an iceskater mom......#3.. What happens after the Gold?
Getting a Gold medal at the SEA Games 2017 is a big deal....and especially from a new and audience friendly sport ; it could propel one to an instant celebrity. Thus , Julian got to enjoy his 30 seconds of fame ! Actually it did last almost a week ....until he left for training ! Lol. And I got a little taste of it too, tagging along, pretending to be his manager ! 'cheap thrill'
So here's a little peek into that one very hectic week of his non stop new found 'celebrity' status.
Interviews started the minute the results were announced.
Followed by radio interviews back to back ...some live and some recorded. It was really funny how he was dragged from one studio to another at Sri Pentas, with people coming over from the TV side to ask for appearances on their show. Then a mad dash over to the other side of BU for BFM.
Selfies and wefies and photos, photos and more photos ! Some even wanted photos with the 'manager' ! Ahem... more 'cheap thrills'
TV interview ( in Mandarin !!) with pretty SEA Games athletes and a World Champion !
Meet and Greet sessions
Be prepared to do lots of signing !
You get to see your face on big banners and billboards
...and newspapers !
You get to shoot a promo clip for Astro's ' The Voice'
You get into the " 14 Malaysian athletes at SEA Games which made our hearts skip a beat" ..or something like that la. Totally sports unrelated. I thought this is hilarious!

..... back to TRAINING! Earth calling Julian ! Dang, I was beginning to enjoy everything too !
By the way, if there are any corporate sponsors out there, I am willing to 'sell' him to wear your products, use your products and talk about your products ! Desperately in need of funds to train ( God willing... pray hard hard) for the Winter Olympics !
Winter Olympics!! He has got to represent Malaysia for the Winter Olympics! Wouldnt that made the news go wild!
I already dont get how he hasnt gotten any sponsors yet! Golden Medalist, Good-looking, famous, what better recipe for Ads model than that!!

Cheap thrills...LOL...you are his mom and you deserved the spotlight too. I wonder about the training...would love to read about those too. I really admire athletes because of their discipline and perseverance.

Congratulations on your son's achievements. I am sure that as a mother (or working mother) you must have given him a lot of support and encouragement for him to go this far.
