Call to Arms!!

in #teamaustralia7 years ago (edited)

Good morning my fellow Team Australians. I'd like to cover 2 quick things today, both of which are a call to arms.

Firstly; our former leader @sirknight has put out a rally cry to get everyone off their backsides and post some more comments. He asks you to post 7 comments on 7 users for 7 days. Go check out his post here.

Next, I want to talk about interactions and getting lots more of our fellow Australians out of the shadows and in front of everyone else. We have a group up around the 400 mark, but on our Dedicated Discord room, we only really have about 10-15 committed members who are always up for a chat.
So lets set a goal to have 10% of our members actually on Discord having a chat. Even if its only 5 mins a day, it'll help us all get to know you, and trust me it'll increase your post rewards.
The link to our discord room is HERE

Couple of other things, check out the idea that @jackmiller recently posted about an organic resteem initiative, also check out @scooter77 travel blogs on his American Holiday.

So hop to it, get to posting and commenting and socializing with all the other awesome Aussies on here.

Team Australia's call to arms is most excellent and will help the Steem cause! Thank you.

However, how does rallying Steemians into Discord help this? In this Knight's opinion, time spent posting on Discord is time NOT being spent conversing and posting on Steemit. Imagine what would happen to the stats if you moved your conversations onto the blockchain... and perhaps to your account balances too. Just a thought.

I am... SirKnight.

But time spent mingling with fellow Australians will help the newer members get recognised and become stronger steemians which will make them crave the success of their forebears like u and me, so they will push their friends and family to come be part of this excellent group of members.
Then eventually us Australians will just take over the entire world like a swarm of fire ants. Steem ants maybe.

Hahaha, whilst I don't doubt your intentions are noble GH, I can't help but recall the 1776 observation of Adam Smith who said...

People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices.

Is scooter's link correct tho?

good pick up, fixed now :)

Your call heard but discord is unfamiliar territory.
In fact it looks like a kids / gamers chat room thing?
Is there a 'grown ups' version where people meet on line?
Maybe a steem based chat room? that does not require additional logins etc etc

Hi Fred.
Discord is the main one that people use. The steemit.chat exists, but no one uses it.

I understand & I am aware, but I have some rhetorical questions.

  • Some people of what age group?
  • What demographic do steemians belong to?
  • What demographic do the mass of twitter/FB/other belong to?
  • Since steem is a 'better' platform for social media why is discord "the place" ?
  • As a "gamer" location there are many negatives for 'others'.
  • Perhaps growth on steem can be improved by reviewing the current situation?

Hi fred,
There are quite a wide variety of people in the discord groups. Yes discord was a gamers platform, but the servers that we use are 100% dedicated to Steemit, there are no little Call of Duty trolls or other 12yr olds playing silly buggers.
Discord has been adopted because the Steemit.chat just frankly isn't very good. Discord just plain works. Plus I beleive many of the original members would have been gamers, so they were familiar with it.
And yes, for Steemit to grow more, they do need to integrate a better chat platform, but I'm hoping once they implement their communities function, it will have an integral chat function for each community in built within steemit.

Also remember, Steemit.com is only 1 way that people can access the Steem blockchain, many members never actually go to the steemit website instead interact on mobile apps such as eSteem, Busy.org or any of the other gateways.

Thank you for reply and info.
I'm not sure re the implications of communities, but hopefully your correct re the chat part.

Thanks, I'll look into the discord thing, I am limited by bandwidth so its a bit difficult at the moment, when I first signed up for steem I was on it for a bit but no one was around so I lost interest in it.

There's always someone around now mate. If not, we just invade Canada and hi-jack their chatrooms :)

Thanks will keep that in mind :)

I think this is great. I've been pulled into other discords lately, but I'd love to stop in more and say hi!

Interesting choice of tags, I hope you all can pull together a little more and get some better engagement.

Im a little late to the party, but I agree. Those hesitant on plunging into discord just give it a day. Youll get use to it, and the people on the teamaustralia chat are mostly awesome pplz.
