Hi Fred.
Discord is the main one that people use. The steemit.chat exists, but no one uses it.

I understand & I am aware, but I have some rhetorical questions.

  • Some people of what age group?
  • What demographic do steemians belong to?
  • What demographic do the mass of twitter/FB/other belong to?
  • Since steem is a 'better' platform for social media why is discord "the place" ?
  • As a "gamer" location there are many negatives for 'others'.
  • Perhaps growth on steem can be improved by reviewing the current situation?

Hi fred,
There are quite a wide variety of people in the discord groups. Yes discord was a gamers platform, but the servers that we use are 100% dedicated to Steemit, there are no little Call of Duty trolls or other 12yr olds playing silly buggers.
Discord has been adopted because the Steemit.chat just frankly isn't very good. Discord just plain works. Plus I beleive many of the original members would have been gamers, so they were familiar with it.
And yes, for Steemit to grow more, they do need to integrate a better chat platform, but I'm hoping once they implement their communities function, it will have an integral chat function for each community in built within steemit.

Also remember, Steemit.com is only 1 way that people can access the Steem blockchain, many members never actually go to the steemit website instead interact on mobile apps such as eSteem, Busy.org or any of the other gateways.

Thank you for reply and info.
I'm not sure re the implications of communities, but hopefully your correct re the chat part.
