A lot of people know how to physically take care of themselves. Some of the habits that they do include: regular exercise, keeping away from sodium and processed foods, following a healthy diet, and more. However, not all people are aware that managing stress also keeps the body healthy.

When stress has been ignored for too long, it can have dangerous effects on our health. Stressed people tend to have decreased immune function and bone density, increased blood pressure, and increased blood pressure.

Athena Robinson, Ph.D., clinical psychologist, and chief clinical officer of therapy chatbot and app Woebot revealed the best and proven ways to de-stress.

Here are the three evidence-based solutions for reducing stress according to Dr. Robinson:

1. Exercise

Exercising has shown to be effective in managing mental wellness. Just 30 minutes of moderate to intense physical activity every day can significantly improve stress symptoms. If you are feeling overwhelmed with stress, make sure to seek support from loved ones, friends, or trained health professionals.

2. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

CBT encourages stressed people to identify any distortions in their thinking and helps them reframe their thoughts to reduce stress and anxiety.

"CBT focuses on the interaction between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors," Dr. Robinson said. "CBT also suggests engaging in activities for the sake of pleasure and enjoyment."

3. Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR)

MBSR includes guided imagery, breathing, as well as other mindfulness practices.

"MBSR strategies involve training in present-focused attention and awareness so that one can be fully in-tune with the reality of their situation and act accordingly," Dr. Robinson said.
