Velvet. My dog is nuts

Velvet is crazy. There is a long list of things that she does that are pretty unique, I feel.

She barks when ever people are having a conversation, as though she would like to join in. This only happens when people haven't seen each other for a while and are catching up and are clearly excited to see each other.

She barks at kites.

She will not eat her food unless you love on her and tell her "go ahead and eat". Sometimes you have to do this repeatedly for several minutes straight. Then if anything interrupts her eating, like a loud noise, or rattling the keys, she will stop eating and you have to start all over again. This can go on for a while. There have been lengths of several days that she will not eat the food from her bowl at all.

She will always find a toy to show you when you return home, she will bring it outside then leave it outside. She will bring a toy for every new visitor every single time. Which means when we have a lesson day with multiple sessions of new customers, all of her toys will be outside. And she has A LOT of toys.

When invited, she will hesitate to come up on the bed or up onto the couch for ridiculous periods of time for no apparent reason then and then will finally come up and immediately every time burrow her head underneath the closest blanket or pillow and growl playfully. She however, will not hesitate to jump up onto the picnic table top when you are sitting up there. She must think she is a billy goat.

She does this playful growley thing where she will huff and puff right next to your face and growl at you for several minutes straight in many different circumstances. You could just be sitting on the floor stretching, watching a movie, driving the truck!... then all of a sudden out of nowhere she will come up to you and growl at you. There is honestly no rhyme or reason to it, we have tried everything to understand what she is trying to communicate. I honestly think its completely random.

If she is on a walk off the leash, she will literally stop at EVERY. SINGLE. MAILBOX. It is so bad, that we have decided not to walk her in the neighborhood if we can help it. We can only walk her on this nature trail called The Patsy Pond trail, or on the beach. Otherwise she would never get any exercise.

She lays down flat on the ground every time you take her leash off or put it on. She will not stand straight up. We have tried treats and all different types of training and it is just they way that it is. She prefers laying down, I suppose.

She really likes to drink beer. So much that she will intentionally knock someones beer over so she can lick it off the floor.

Whenever I get a phone call she goes to the front door and wants to be let outside. It makes absolutely no sense at all.

She is amazing. I love her just the way that she is and wouldn't change a thing... welllll I would make it so she doesn't bark at kites, i suppose, ... but that's all.
