The torque issue is one that makes diesel look as if it can't be replaced by electric vehicles. The diesel, for now, has more torque at low rpm, this may be a good thing depending on the situation. Imagine more torque on a light vehicle on a slippery road! But the torque war may soon be won by the electric vehicle via clever use of the gear system and other optimisation. I'm a fan of electric vehicles as you must have guessed :) I believe they stand to get better with time.
The problem with doing this on electric cars is that once you increase torque you also increase power consumption. When power consumption goes up on electric cars you reduce the travelling distant.
Diesel is here to stay and the best way to make it eco-friendly is to run it on Biodiesel.
