Puerto Rico is Showing again the Importance of Gold and Silver
Even if you're rich you're poor right now in Puerto Rico.
It's been 3 weeks since they were slammed by two tropical storms. 85% of residents are still without power. Some experts say it could be 3 months until their infrastructure is fixed.
ATMs and debit machines are down leaving many residents without access to cash. Bitcoin is worthless right now aswell. There were warnings prior to the hurricanes but many weren't prepared for this level of destruction.
Gold and Silver dealers are setting up shops around the nation and business is booming. Many people are trading their gold and silver for cash or bartering for items they need to survive.
Some shops are even putting priority on gold and silver over cold hard cash. People are trading their jewelry for food, clothes, gas and medical supplies.
3.7 million Puerto Rican's are without power, for a nation directly linked to America and even sharing it's Dollar, right now it's like something out of a apocalyptic movie.
It's another reminder that no matter how technologically advanced we become as a species were still at the mercy of mother nature.
Since the dawn of man gold has and will always have value, sometimes even large cash reserves can't buy you the items you may need in a disaster. Gold and Silver are recognized, sought after and easily exchangeable on ever corner of the globe.
The crisis in Puerto Rico is another wake up call to the importance of having a little precious metals at your disposal.
Venezuela is still not back to normal.
Cash is worthless there. People have been eating their pets for food it's that bad yet one single oz of silver could buy you 6 weeks of groceries or a house with some land.
I just read a story 2 days ago on Reuters that family's are sifting through sewage runoffs in the hopes of finding jewelry that may have been accidentally washed down the drains.
This is actually happening on this planet right now!
Naysayers scoff at the importance of gold and silver but anytime a disaster occurs I read countless stories of precious metals saving people's lives!
Mother nature is unpredictable, you could wake up to a completely different world then when you went to bed. Threats such as a massive hacking or an emp blast can change your world, why not be prepared?
People buy food, medical supplies, batteries and flashlights and you should also throw a bit of silver into your preparations aswell. It's easily obtainable and affordable.
I'm not a doomsdayer I'm a realest. We're far too comfortable with leaving everything to chance and trusting we'll always have internet and power. You can't predict nature as we've seen time and time again and even having large cash reserves sometimes falls to the power of shiny metals.
Some will say "oh well in a disaster guns and bullets are the most important" but are you really going to resort to killing people to get food or clean water?
Looting is not really prevalent in Puerto Rico right now, people haven't been pushed to that desperation level but the ones that have silver and gold are atleast able to rationally barter for things they need.
Precious metals like gold and silver have been valued forever and always will be and they're showing their power in Puerto Rico right now.

Thanks for sharing. This is an example for the need to be prepared.
@goldenarms It is so good to see you interacting with me and others here on STEEMIT. Thank You
Check my post total, I'm highly interested :)
Great article @goldenarms. I have lived off grid for over 10 years and we work hard to live off the land as much as possible. Good health, knowledge and experience would serve us well in the event of a disaster. I have also stated for years that we cannot depend on fictional constructs such as fiat currency, electronic currency, etc. We must find ways to use physical constructs like commodities to trade with and being able to add value could make the difference between life and death. What you wrote about is bang on and I agree 100%. We started growing tobacco as it would give us a great commodity to trade with and for ceremonies as well. Being able to provide for all our own needs is critical as man made infrastructures are fragile and will fail. Bravo!
Hey great comment. I heard people in Puerto Rico are selling cigarettes at inflated prices. Ppl that smoke gotta have em. Thx for stopping by @wwf
powerful and thought provoking post
Man. What a great post and a great reminder. Think it can't happen here? Think again. American society is so morally bankrupt that I think we would fare worse faster if something like an EMP would knock our grid out. We would eat each other in short order.
Having silver on hand is easy and cheap. And it literally could save yours or a loved ones life. Imagine trading your wifes wedding ring for food. If you had a stack of silver that wouldn't be an issue.
Keep up the good work homie! Followed.
Hilarious!
Philadelphia Collins. The Mustard Tiger.
Great reminder man! There is still lots of good reasons to have some physical gold and silver, hopefully you convert a few more stackers.
PM's are so intertwined to technology too.. I'm shocked more tech savvy ppl here don't want in on em? Limited supply with growing demand. The phone I'm using can't function without gold and silver. They won't keep the price suppressed for much longer I really do believe that. Add to the fact I've read they haven't been finding as many big caches of gold in the ground or sea lately. Booyah me and u get rich! Lol
Yup back to the basics.
Yeah hopefully we'll never lose power or internet for months. I'll miss Steemit! Lol
yup ... physical gold and physical silver ... and physical cash as well ... unless the currency is useless like the venezulean bolivar ... thank you for the reminder ... upvoted and resteemed
It doesn't take much for society to collapse and go back to bartering. I'm going to buy more silver
Yeah back to the basics. It was nice reading their conducting themselves in a civilized manner despite the circumstances they're in. Thx for reading!
Living simply and without electricity is a skill that needs to be relearned by many people. Everything you mention are important parts of the puzzle.
Knowledge is the most important currency you'll ever own. Luckily for me I find it interesting reading and learning how to live off the grid and improvise in situations PR is currently in. I hope to never have to use that information but it certainly will serve me well in the event i do. Thanks for stopping by @anarchrysalis
