With that said, it is the responsibility of the parents to show a good example rather than a poor one. Often times, we see parents judge other people based on appearance and looks alone, and at times may blurt out ‘is your friend a poor man’s son?’ or ‘Do you want to be friend with that skinny, snotty nosed child?’. These are mistakes we need to correct.

Children should be taught to respect the people around them so that they will not be arrogant. Children who are good at appreciating and accepting other people’s shortcomings will also be appreciated well in society. The child’s need for good reception of the people around them is a very important, a basic requirement for a child’s healthy growth.

As parents, it is best to introduce the diverse nature of work of the people around them. In this manner, it highlights a perspective that which compliments different jobs, and promotes harmony among workers and leave out their deficiencies. A certain job may not be a job that everyone wants, such as the work of street sweepers, labourers, barbers, the list goes on. But as long as the work is good enough and the demand is sustaining life, for as long as it is still prevailing in the traditions of society, that work should not be reproached. Our job as educators is to educate the children and rid the behavior of demeaning and mocking these types of jobs.

The following, is a result when a child hears a parent ridicule others:

1. They will feel reluctant to do a job in fear of being considered sub-standard. When he gets a good job, he will boast and be merry. But once he gets a sub-standard job, he loses confidence despite the fact that that is the only thing he is able to do. Children can become too idealistic in making choice which makes it difficult for them to get a job and even a life partner. Too much idealism would impact the ability to choose a spouse as he already is accustomed to ridicule or scorn others. He will most likely become an unfavorable choice for a possible partner.

2. It is difficult for a child to belong in the environment, resulting in total isolation as a result of the thought that whatever he has, is sub-standard. Therefore, it is a must for parents and teachers to use positive sentences to instill positivity in these children. A positivity that might find its use one day.
