My thought of being an educator for learning disabled children in Malaysia #2

"Teaching must be easy!"
"You earn way too much for your job"
"Must be fun to have a lot of holidays"

None of these are true. Alright, listen.

  • Teaching is hard
  • Teaching is important
  • Teaching is deserving of an actual salary with benefits

Guess what, even some teachers from the normal side said the same thing to special education teachers cause we earn more than them yet teach lesser students. It is okay. I am sure they have their own reasons for that. Just because we are on the same boat doesnt mean we are in the same department.

General education teachers probably have to teach more than 100 students while special education teachers have somewhere below 20-30. But then, it would be massacre to put 30 ADHD/Autistic in a single classroom. That's why in Malaysia we only put 6-10 students in a single classroom (normally it is so small cause we divided it from the normal classroom to half , which of course is bad for the learning disabled students). You have your own types of client while I have mine too. We should just accept the differences :)

Since I said teaching is hard just now, why ? (In general)

  • Lack of resources
Teachers do earn quite a lot of money but then they probably have to spend it for their job, I mean if they really love their students. Some teachers even bought their own LCD projector, laptops (for students) etc just to ensure students get the latest kind of technologies available out there. School funding impacts students learning in several areas. There are even some school science lab with no microscope, weight scale, LCD projector etc like duhh do your expect them to be good in science just by letting them force them reading and memorizing it from the book. Students lose out on opportunities when schools are underfunded.
  • Time constrained environment
Teachers in real life are so much diff compared to the movie. We are not that free of course, we start the day earlier than most 7.am at least . It’s also important to know that teachers’ schedules are very inflexible which of course not in a good way. Some meetings could end at 4 p.m not too mention extra-curriculum program. 7-9 hours at school like duhh.

I feel like writing more but then I ran out of juice 😓

So, I have something cute to share with you all

Here in my country, they don't really have an opportunity to learn science. But then, they were reading science book about sun and moon. And so I approached them..

Me : Where is the moon during the day ?
Them : Sleeping.... (with confidence of course XD)
Me : Hmm okayy 😁
Me : But then, where does the sun go at night ?
Them : Sleeping at home..
Me : Where ?
Them : Behind the mountains
Me : XD
