Whales On Steemit Should Act Like Talent Agents

How Should The Whales Be Voting

As I sit here pondering what the job of the whales on steemit truly was I came up with this comparison. They should be acting almost exactly in the capacity of a talent agent.

Find the posts from new users that are actually quality, upvote that user maybe once maybe a few times until that user has a decent little following. After that the whale can take off and let the people naturally upvote the posts. The value of the posts will go down from potentially thousands to hundreds but in reality until the wealth is distributed more the hundreds are actually a closer representation of the voting from the actual people not trying to get rich from following whales around. I believe this is what has happened to stellebella.

Get In, Upvote, Promote, And Get Out

I truly feel like the most positive impact a whale can make would be to promote quality, and then leave. Sticking around paying certain users massive amounts of money just pisses the rest off, not having a presence makes for lower paid posts and less interest. So as far as I see it the sweet spot would be right in the middle somewhere promoting the users the whales enjoy and then once it's growing organically getting the hell out of the way. At least until the majority of voting power isn't held in the top minority. When it's distributed more throughly it won't matter as a minority won't have the power to swing the votes but right now they do. So as far as what influence should a whale have on steemit when it comes to using their votes I believe this is really all they should be doing right here.

Help someone get started, get their page growing organically, and then get out.

Feel free to give me a follow at my Blog if you so choose and I will catch you on the flip side.

It's not that simple. We have a lot of bots here on steemit. Sad, but true.

Would be nice to see a lot more whales interacting with members

Hey Whales where are you? ))

I totally agree with you @will-zewe. Like the post.

I think we should just forget the whales. Post the content that is worthwhile sharing to you, the rest will follow.

Happiness will come to you, when it comes from you.

However, I won't argue with:

Find the posts from new users that are actually quality, upvote that user maybe once maybe a few times until that user has a decent little following.

Which was the point of your post. Upvoted, followed.

Thank you very much, I have high hopes for steemit and others like it, I see them taking a solid chunk out of the current centralized privatized models we see today. I feel like whales now are working more efficiently and effectively then they were before, and for the beginning I truly feel like whales favoring anyone specifically for an extended period of time will have a negative effect on the community as a whole. Just until steem is a little better distributed anyways.

It can be quite disheartening putting hours into a post (not this one) getting nothing, and watching the same people get high payouts over and over simply from having a bot follow them. But as a whole I think steemit is progressing nicely, the changes happen quickly (the mining hack was a good example of that) and I fell like the devs actually want this to succeed long term, and they have my backing.

The top whales are pooling their voting power by distributing their earnings to other accounts that either support their interests or are directly controlled by them, the top earners all have extensive networks like this. These networks have the potential to bring more value to steem if all users in the group act independently of financial incentive, as well as the potential to devalue the currency (as we have seen recently) when too many incestuous voting relationships are formed.

See and thats just it, we dont need to act 100% independant of financial rewards though. We just need to also upvote content that we enjoy. My follow feed consists of both high paying artists (which get switched out as the whales come and go) and then theres a permanent section of lower paying posts from peole I truly enjoy. Those people I never switch out, and eventually Id like my feed to consists solely of those individuals, its just at the moment if I only followed the people I actually like then my curation rewards would be alot lower. So for now I follow artists I don't really enjoy but in the future im hoping to soley follow artists I enjoy, hopefully most will be high paying.

As for the potential t devalue the currency, I totally agree I think a big reason steem is falling is because most are holding SP but there's a small percent that bought in from the beginning and are still making a profit selling. They are very small amount of us, I believe 2%, give or take, and when they are done selling the majority will be held instead of being sold and at that time I believe we will see a nice reversal in price. Once that small percent selling is sold out I don't see to many others powering down extensively to sell immediately.

I hope you are right!

Yeah its a bit annoying. I look at a bunch of whales on steemstats.com to see who they vote for. It's often uninteresting posts. And a lot of them are who they "follow". Overall, there is a lack of concern for quality in the users. Most post 80% garbage filler on the "new" section. I made a post to try to get people to focus on upping their game and help Steemit succeed, and 1 whale liked it, but I suspect many are just trying to keep their curation rewards coming in so they can keep making $$$, and vote on higher quality material here and there. The bots don't judge quality...lol. So yeah...

I have invested $300 so far from bitcoin exchanges and have been promoting Powering Up... but not so sure anymore.

They voting weight system doesn't seem equitable... too much power to upvote posts for only a certain few whales and dolphins to create payouts.

Something isn't right in how it works. But I've been focusing on creating quality, it gets some recognition. People need to up their game and make greater quality, and stop posting 4x pointless posts a day, and also curate/upvote the higher quality material that actually makes a difference in our lives.

Thanks for the post. Upvoted, followed. Take care. Peace.

I couldn't agree more, I don't really have anything to add either. Thanks for the follow I checked out your blog and it looks like you create some solid quality so I gave you a follow as well. I do feel like the whales are trying to promote and grow steemit successfully and they're not just looking for a get rich quick scheme, so as it sits i'm still all in hoping for the best. We shall see though, but just like you I maybe should have kept my steem in liquid form instead of locking it in. O well tis what it is.
