Why I’m Not Keen On Inviting My Facebook Friends Here

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Before you raise your eyebrows and dismiss me as someone selfish who wants to keep steemit for himself, I want you to do something first. Go to your Facebook account and spend some time browsing your feed. Take your time.

Do you like what you just saw? Now answer this honestly, do you really want your Facebook friends to move here in steemit?

If yes, then by all means, ask them over! Right now.

But for me, I’m not really keen on inviting them over. Not that I’m being picky or judgy but I believe that facebook and steemit are miles apart in terms of content. That belief is based on my two months of addiction here.

I’m not saying that we have a perfect community or ours is better than the other, but I really do not like the idea of bringing my friends’ type of content here because we already have a lot of that. Are we not complaining about spam?

Do you really want to see one or two lines of text in colorful background? Or a gory video of a horrible accident caught on cam? How about a rehashed hoax that is sooo two thousand and eight?

I can list more but I’m afraid that you will judge me based on what my friends post in their Facebook. After all, can’t you tell me who I am, if I tell you what my friends post?

So I won’t judge them or the things they chose to share. I don’t have any right in the first place.
I won’t call it trash or garbage or crap. I’ll just say that they are different.

And they are totally different from the things I love seeing here. Here, I can go to one tag and read good stuff about the things I am passionate about. Of course, there are trashy contents that abound here too but you can easily unfollow. Or the community can filter it out by flagging spammy posts. Those things are hard, if not impossible, to do in Facebook.

While I understand that we need new users to grow, I’m not just ready to see this place bombarded with ‘facebooky’ content. For now, I’ll cherish this place a little longer for myself.

That, or I need a new set of friends.

I really wanna comment this but I am out of time.

I leave this comment so that I remember to come back and do so.

big hugs

Tama ka naman @st3llar. For me, I try to share my steemit content to raise interest ideally to those who can really bring over their talents here. I just keep on sharing so they see the diffrence.
Keep steeming!
@arrliinn

Hehe. Ang hirap. Yung mga ininvite ko parang di naniwala. So my plan is to grow here then show them.

Yes. They're too skeptical. Kala ata eh "networking". Open-minded ka ba, kaibigan?! Nyahaha

Yun nga. Di ko naman sila niyayayang magkape.haha

You've got talent!

This is extraordinary!

Blogs in themselves rank and accomplish steemit growth in the search engines.

I honestly regret telling others about this site. If they're not joining, there's no need for them to know I use this as an outlet for my thoughts.

How successful are you at bringing people over

Awareness works too. They can join at a later time. You may have already had people that signed up to steemit by finding your posts in the search engines, so its all good. When your conviction is made strong and obvious about steemit, people will ask you how to sign up and you will be telling people to sign up with more conviction and that works better!

Well, I tried inviting few people without any success. These are the few who I think can bring value to steemit and their reaction is like, "is that legit?"

Yeah, I feel you there

This is phenomenal!

This is remarkable work.

Great delivery!

You've made it look effortless.

You're a natural.

People shud stop comparing facebook and steemit. They r different. steemit is a blogger platform ,a diluted version of reddit. Facebook is a social network of different nature, Many decentralized FB projects are in the works

Do you want more earnings?

Keep up the good work!

Most recent post: It is official, WE are witnesses!

I get you! Pacing is important. In reality, it is more effective when a veteran steemian invites new steemians because he can take care of them etc. He has stood on his feet as well. It took me almost a year and knowing steemit in and out to start on this path and even at that i am still picky and if you have read my audience, all you have said in your post is true. The internet surfing culture in the Philippines is general is not like in other nations and isn't one that fits with steemit seamless, so basically what we do is, if you try to bring in new ones, we try to reshape the culture which is hard work but one we love. Many newer steemians are inviting new ones which isn't bad but it won't be as solid or as effective and as deeply rooted as one who knows steemit well as the likelihood is like minds attract. So i get the picky part. Don't be deterred though, if you get to find potential in an invitee to steemit, i can certainly help with speeding them up. I teach life and that succeeds, steemit and beyond! On the side tho, read my last post as i have tips for you. Create content and you are still growing steemit organically by means of the search engines.

Hey, thanks for taking your time sharing your thoughts. I agree with your approach of helping steemians grow and posting quality content that will generate organic search results in search engines. Right now, most of my friends are not ready for something like steemit but hopefully, ill get back to them and show them that this is something legit and valuable. Thanks!

I get you. it is true about Ph in general and is evident even here. But hoping my simple post and dms can help in adjusting things. It is not only your friends. It is a very general thing! I play basketball here and i have been with a ton of boys and they will generally laugh about things related to big dreams or steemit but i approach them in a very different way, when i talk about steemit. When talking about steemit in PH, i talk about life, i do a lot of prepping tackling the substance of the person before steemit comes in! For people with potential, i open their eyes just a bit, then bring them on steemit and they follow their mentorship. The approach is way different when i talk to people from other countries. If you look at my last post, though, it was directed to #philippines, you will notice that others read between my lines and drew something out! So a little education is necessary. So for you, i admonish you to grow and find yourself. You will need to climb over the ladder to effectively draw someone up

Yes. Im glad that people recognize the different online culture of Filipinos. Ive read your post and I agree about creating quality stuff that will encourage readers to eventually sign up. My plan is to actually grow here and hope someday that I can do the things you are doing now, which is helping new steemians grow.

Power! :P

Exactly! That is how it should work. I have sheer talent when it comes to understanding life and humans but i still paced things. From minnow days, i used to do non-stop DMs, people used to visit me from my post and i catered to close to 800 people, before this efforts started. I have done this efforts but not as effectively as now. It is one thing to bring people and it is another thing to keep them going! Developing yourself is the right way cos eventually you will be bring in likeminded people and that networks itself out. Read my last post, there is message for you on there!

Haha. I finally read your post! I resteemed it. The gift card would definitely work imho because really, Pinoys love freebies!

Very informative.

I logged into steemit and immediately saw a suggestion for a good currency trade. I logged into my Facebook to say hi to my Aunt and immediately saw a child die. You're so right... miles apart.

Haha. I can totally relate! When I see spammy or morbid posts on FB, i hit unfollow right away. LOL! Although I've talked to a (selected) few FB friends and showed them links to my steemit page and i told them a little of why I love it. I've gotten good feedbacks but so far none has signed up. :P

Haha. In time they will join us.
