Guide: Check your Resource Credits to see how many posts, votes, and transactions you can do!

in #steem6 years ago

I think most of us are still a bit confused about the Resource Credits (RCs), and exactly how many RCs you need to do a single action. This system seem a bit complex right now, but I'm sure we will all get used to it soon enough.

I have seen people wanted to get a number for what it cost to publish a blog post, a comment, or an upvote, but there is not clear answer here. The exact cost will depend on the current load on the blockchain, meaning that it will be cheaper to post/transact when there is fewer people who are currently transacting to the blocks.

This does not mean that you cannot get an okay overview of what you can expect from your RCs though, and once again the witness @dragosroua comes to save the day. He has updated the website http://steem.supply to show not only your RCs, but also to show you roughly how many posts, votes, and transactions you can do before you need to recharge.

To see your profile, use the link http://steem.supply/@username, but change "username" to your own username. As you can see from the screenshot above, the number of actions you can perform on the blockchain is right below your profile picture.

I obviously have a lot more RCs compared to what I actually need, so it's nice to at least be able to post without having to worry about this. But even if you have less Steem Power; at least it's nice to know exactly how much you can do before having to recharge. And remember that you recharge superfast now after one of the updates to the hardfork, so now you get 200 % in a single 24 hour period compared to the normal 20 % per day that was intended.

How are new users doing?

As expected the amount of actions you can do depends on your Steem Power, and it seems like minnows and plankton users are still in a bad place. One of my alt accounts with 6 Steem Power can only do a single post or comment before having to recharge the RCs, so we need these actions to be a lot less expensive in the future if we want to have new users on this blockchain.

It's important to keep in mind that this system will eventually stabilize by itself, and it might take a week or so before we get to the spot where actions are priced correctly. So there is no need to panic if you cannot do enough actions right now; it will most likely fix itself soon enough.

Anyway, if you find steem.supply to be a good tool (it has a lot of other nice features besides just seeing your Resource Credits), then I'm sure @dragosroua would love for you to consider him as a witness. He's currently in place 55, but he deserves to be a lot higher in my opinion. So please consider giving him a vote if you find this tool to be useful.

Do you feel like you have enough RCs to be able to use Steem like you normally would?

Sort:

I also noticed that if you have 100% delegated (as inactive investor) you got little to no RC; some very big accounts have thuis issue still; you must power up some 50 SP ; then undelegate a little SP , wait a week and then you are back in business.

Oh, that sounds unfortunate! I guess all passive investors like this would need to keep a small reserve of SP for themselves from now on out. You used to be fine with just keeping something like 4-5SP to do some delegations.

Yeah @dragosroua did a really nice job with steem.supply...
After about 2 weeks of HF20 the system has adjusted and RC has got distributed evenly...

Yep, but I'm honestly still a bit concerned about it. New users with only 3SP worth of RC still can't make more than a single post, so they won't be able to respond to comments after they publish an introduction post for example. I really hope smaller accounts are able to do a bit more than this..

Very helpful! Thank you! Still trying to wrap my head around this event!

You're welcome. And yeah, it's a lot to learn about the RCs.

I was able to upvote several times as well as post two comments and resteem a post for less than 10% of my RC. I am a redfish with 26sp so the patch seems relatively fair so far. Hopefully it continues to balance out fairly for everyone in the coming days.

Oh, that's not bad at all for 26SP. Still a little low in my opinion, especially if they stop the 10x rate they currently have, but it's a good start!

Yeah the rate of RC costs for actions seems relatively reasonable so far, though thats just my opinion on my limited actions and observations since the patch went into affect.

Yep, it's pretty reasonable at your level. But it's a bit too low for people who just joined us; they only have 3SP, so I'm not even sure if they can do a single post right now..

That sucks.. I'm not sure I understand why the newbie delegation was taken away from new accounts so they could at least minimally function on the platform in the first place, other than to force them to invest fiat or crypto they may not have.. I know when I first started on steemit I had limited knowledge of crypto and none of blockchain. I have learned quite a bit since joining though.

The reason is that the developers believe that the RC system will be much better along the line, since it allows for cheaper on-boarding of new users. Now that Steemit Inc does not have to delegate to new users anymore, all dapps such as Steemmonsters, Busy, Musing, DTube or any of these can create accounts for new users (for free), making it possible to get lots of new members more quickly.

And the intent is that new users should have enough RCs to interact with the blockchain without too many limitations, so we just need to wait until the system had found its equilibrium to see if this turns out to be true.

Those small account issues seem to be things that are coming up frequently! The system is still equilibrating so hopefully in not long those small accounts will be able to function normally. Think we can help that along by continuing to do our thing :)

Multiplying the rc at least helped get everyone back on track, would have been nice if they'd topped up the vp while they were about it ;D

ps to answer your rc question, it's currently recharging so fast I can do my usual spattercannon thing with no worries, but I'm being slower than usual while that vp recharges at its usual pace XD

Yep, I really hope the small accounts will be able to use the blockchain normally soon. It must feel bad for them to not be able to comment or post more than one or two times a day in total :/

would have been nice if they'd topped up the vp while they were about it ;D

Yeah, that would have been nice. At least the reward pool is growing big now that everyone lost their voting power!

I think I'm OK.... Now, if my Voting Power would just hurry up and recharge!

Hehe, it's too bad that Voting Power dosen't recharge at 10x the normal speed as well :P

I upvoted your post.

Keep steeming for a better tomorrow.

valth? It has been two days and I have been trying to edit my posts, but I keep getting that message that my credits need to recharge. Usually only it took 24 hours for me at least to get one chance to edit a post. What is going on? Could you help me out here?
