What is worth more?

in #steem5 years ago

After a couple more wines, let's play a game. Pretty much everyone holding Steem and no matter how much one has, is hoping that the value of it is going to go up. The only variation in this really is whether one thinks they have enough Steem or not, not if they want Steem to improve in price. However, getting Steem to improve in price seems like a hard task, no matter how supportive the better community, no matter how much development takes place, no matter that the absolute rubbish the shite is that ranks higher in market cap. What are crypto traders speculating on?

What I wonder when it comes to those people on sTeem who are doing things like buyinkg votes and vote trading to collect Steem coins, is it worth it? Are they expecting that regardless how much shit they do that harms it, eventually other people on Steem will do the work necessary to raise the price so that what they have collected has value?

I wonder how much shit could be moved on from if a small portion of users stopped their shitty behavior and started actually acting as if they want the value of what they hold to go up. You know, just start treating Steem like a business that requires owners that give a shit about it enough to market it, cultivate and nurture a customer base and make it attractive for consumers by building experiences that people enjoy?

Too hard?

Best to keep raping resources and hoping that all of the things required get done by others. They will be done eventually, but it will likely take longer, be more resource and effort intensive and have a lower result due to the increasing competition faced. Competition will come and the first mover advantage is being lost due to assholes who keep sucking up Steem into themselves like Steem Dysons, rather than working out ways to make what they hold more valuable.

I hope Steem does well for many people's sake, because based on their behaviors, many of the people who are here don't have many options in the real world. I wonder what some of these large accounts financial positions were like before Steem. Personally, my finances were in the toilet, still are. I have some Steem though. Unlike someone like this:

A total of half a million STEEM in rewards

Still posting low-quality shitposts daily for reward, while powering down a minnow account?.

What happened to you dude? 80,000+ in curation rewards alone!

Need the money?

Guessing no matter what opportunity some people get on Steem, it isn't good enough to keep putting into the community and holding some Steem. But of course, who knows what goes on IRL. Eventually, all whales in the ocean die, and this is no different for the limited amount of them here too. The next pump some will sell, occasionally, one will need to pay for medical costs, another will have a gambling problem, another will be kidnapped in Argentina or wherever. You know, life happens and there aren't that many large accounts here at the moment, there are far more mid-sized accounts and as the extreme point slowly loses their Steem in various ways, the middle becomes much more important.

When it comes to the future of Steem, with each rise people will sell and those who will sell the most will be those who got it the easiest or who think, this is as good as it gets. Eventually, that leads to much lower peaks and buyers and holders who have a stronger vision for the future for Steem, one that isn't cash out to fiat as soon as possible.

So, what is worth more to you, the amount of Steem you have, or the value of the Steem you have?

I agree easy come easy go. The harder it was the more likely you will hang on no matter what. The same can be said in life though as you see the ones who inherit something don't cherish it as much compared to the ones that earned everything they have and appreciate things more. I appreciate every Steem I have as there is no such thing as easy Steem.

Yep, I wish I had had a chance to inherit something :D
It has happened for years and many of the top Steem earners are no where to be seen and their Steem is gone.

The reality is that it is not the same and once gone it will be 100 times harder to earn. The ones that aren't active now will struggle to jump back in and I am looking forward to seeing old users returning thinking they will do the same again as it has all changed.

It is going to be even harder if they haven't kept some capital to buy in. Even if they earn on autos, they aren't going to be seeing the same growth as they once did, plaus the additional competition.

True statement.

What you have assumed, is not as it seems...

That is all I will comment at this stage.

Time will reveal.

Looking forward to it and hope you are okay. As said, life happens and it happens to us all.

Good reflection for those of us coming to steemit.
My everyday language is Spanish and it has been difficult for me to find interesting and good quality publications. Sometimes with a number of upvotes that are not justified.
On the other hand, I have been fortunate to start with a group in steemit from the hand of @joseacabrerav. Where each meeting we have insisted on doing quality post. I believe that in what we have done so far there is an important effort that can contribute to giving value to the community. We are still starting and it seems very important to share your reflection with our group. Excuse my English. Good day.

The entire community is small so when it comes to languages, it is good for language groups to gather and really make a community together and support each other.

The two other "competitors" (term used loosely because I'm a something for everyone kinda person) I'm only very tenuously hanging around on now are facing similar issues at the moment (along with similar issues steem faced at a similar age). And I'm pretty sure a lot of the people on those other sites that I recognise from here ran from here to there hoping to avoid the problems from here and probably don't realise that due to the nature of these things these problems are going to keep cropping up at every new project along these lines and how well those projects will fare will depend on how well they weather/deal with the problems.

I'm currently just hanging around the other two to see if they survive and if so, if they also come good, as I'm not sure if one is still being developed and am not sure I like some of the decisions being made by the other, plus apparently I only like some things centralised and social networks doesn't seem to be one of them

So as far as that goes I think steem will be all right.
