Science at home! Fun homemade experiments for the little ones. Today we will make a Homemade Newton Disc and we will play with the colors!
Materials:
A white sheet
A CD
Colors
Pencil
Ruler
Scissors
Marble
Paste
Process:
To build our homemade newton record we have to make a kind of spinning top with the CD and the marble.
First of all we draw a circle of the size of the CD on the sheet of paper and, with the help of the protractor, we divide the circle into 7 equal sectors.
With the colored pencils we draw each sector of a different color. For example red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
The experiment comes out better if we divide the circle into 14 equal sectors and draw two sets of 7 colors.
Next, we cut the circle and make a hole in the center of the size of the marble.
Finally, we fix the paper circle to the CD and stick the marble in the center.
Turning the CD with your hands on a horizontal surface we will see the white disc.
What has happened?
Isaac Newton (1643-1727) discovered that if sunlight is passed through a prism, light is broken down into the seven colors of the rainbow. From this experience he deduced that if white light breaks down into the seven colors of the rainbow, by mixing these colors white light could be obtained.
Newton's disk is a device invented by Isaac Newton himself consisting of a circle painted with a series of different colors. If the disc is rotated with sufficient speed the colors are confused and the disc will look white.
