Cheers @brian-rhodes just been watching your other SMT videos, and your making a believer out of me.... What the community needs is to get passed the money and spend time reinvesting in the community and other platforms that help grow us. Good luck with the project with @steempress and looking forward to more updates on SMT

It takes time. Unfortunately it was launched on the premise - make income. That's too bad. The real goal for each of us is add something worthwhile to the conversation and listen to what others have to say... and the reward will take care of itself.

That premise unfortunately sometimes brings the incorrect aspect that's required to help decentralization.
I do appreciate you and others bringing insightful content to the platform, together as community we can move forward.
Thanks again and keep on STEEMing.

Very interesting - I liked your distinction between the different types of "onboarding" that are possible for your film project and why a solutions-based approach could be effective and successful. In business lingo, I would probably call those "pain points" - as in, "What kind of pain do you have... and how do we help you get rid of that pain?" Fundraising is a huge concern, of course. That's why I think crowdfunding has been so commercially successful.

One other pain point, I think, is "first weekend box office." I used to work for a New York City digital marketing agency, and we had a number of indie filmmakers as clients. One concern that they had was getting people in seats on opening weekend. If they couldn't get that first weekend box office number to be as big as possible, cinemas would basically pull those films and put in films that would perform well. And so filmmakers would come to us, and ask us to find people to watch their films as part of our marketing engagement.

So, social media was very effective - if you knew that a documentary film was about, say, whales, you'd find every single online community about whales and raise awareness of the film with those communities. You'd run ads on Facebook for people who identified in some way as fans of whales. That type of thing - make them aware that a film about whales was opening in a month... So... in terms of solutions to be offered as part of Steem.film, I would humbly suggest the concept of "first weekend box office" in addition to "fundraising" as a topic for discussion. Steem.film would function in some way as a low-cost marketing support network/agency that would help them succeed on opening weekend.

I don't disagree with you. And eventually I believe there will be many films that make it to the 'box office' stage. But the idea of steem.film is to encourage a collaborative community to make films. The Film Festivals are there for the ones that want to take that step. But I'm using the short film (TOOTTC) - my blogs with that in the title and then my feature film to pave the way through on-boarding. Once we have a full blown and thriving film community, inventive people like yourself will do what you need to do to be successful and leverage the resources. It's an exciting proposition. It will be a public, decentralized site... just like Steemit. No one will own it!

Great talk Brian! Very inspiring and I'm sure we can take away a few things from the video to be used when working on #nth-society as well. Just linked this in our Slack server for the other guys involved.

I'm looking forward to hear more about the site. You're definitely onto something when you talk about onboarding through building a more cohesive or "aligned" community within the larger Steem community. The shotgun approach works, but the psychological pull becomes much stronger with a tighter nit and more specific community purpose.

Yes. My next 2 blogs will be about the marketing side. I think you'll be quite excited by the possibilities! Thank you fir your comment.

It will be nice to see more creative people like you get on Steemit. I still think many do not realize what a great opportunity it is for independent artists.

I would call myself creative. Just following an instinct based on my experience. But it does take time. One of things that's so important is to develop very well defined communities. That will help and it is coming. Thanks for the comment.

yup, just joined! first impressions are great!

i completely agree with azfix, this is a great opportunity for the indie artist just on the pay scale alone compared to youtube, which takes 60%-65% automatically from the content creator is just one of the reasons an independent artist should use Steemit. This platform is gonna be the future i can see it happening already and i've only been a member for 3 days now. I see this as a youtube before it blew up!!!

The only way for a community to grow is trough support within the members of the community itself. So many people here on Steemit are trying to make money without providing anything useful to the community. You should only be up-voting things you either like or enjoy, and that provide something meaningful to the community. Steemit has great potential, but it is up to us to make it better. Thank you for taking the time to talk about your project @brian-rhodes. I'm looking forward on the next update and in the meanwhile I wish you the best! Have a great day!

What you say is true but not to dissuade you, we are more interested in comments on our blog. I'll up-vote you for effort this time but adding to the conversation in the blog is constructive. For example, a guy just suggested the token for steem.film should be 'Flix like in Netflix and Flicks. That's great support.

SMT looks real promising... Looking forward for the launch of SMT's ,as it may bring much more success to this great platform!

Yes hms818 smt lansmanları bizlerin önünü açıyor çok fazla olanak sağlıyor ...

Fırsatlar başarı anlamına gelir. Ben SMT tam olarak bunu beklemek bekliyoruz!

I'm confident it will and I hope SMT's are used by those who want to set up communities all bootstrapped to Stemmit!

Thanks for the fascinating video post. I was particularly interested in hearing your view that "real success of Steem lies in communities."

Kudos and thanks again.

Thank you. And in my opinion it does. The new communities protocols launching soon should be a world of improvement. Thanks for the comment.

Very interesting, thanks Brian. So which segment of film-makers do you plan to target first? Amateur?

Any estimates when all of this is going to be up & running? Perhaps 2019?

This may actually become massive, as this is totally different target audience and community.

In the next blog, I'll be telling you how we are going to go about introduce the steem.film and steemit to filmmakers. I'll give you a hint... Film Festivals. So the next time you see one of my posts and it starts off in the title with (TOOTTC), watch it.

Interesting perspective on SMTs. Yes - communities are what is going to drive growth.

YES!!!
