RE: Why is The Expanse SO Damn Good?

in #scifi8 years ago

I couldn't get into The Expanse, despite a couple of attempts. Sounds like I should have been more persistent!

The two sci-fi shows I've enjoyed in recent years are: Humans and Utopia.

Humans is a (very) near future scenario about the introduction of robots. It's an examination of the potential upheaval to society that they could cause (as well as the typical examination of what it is to be human). It works because none of it is a stretch, all of it feels like it's just around the corner and to some extent here already. The implications are worrying.

Utopia is a paranoia - conspiracy theory - action - thriller. It's surreal, geeky, weird, and a little bit welsh. And fun. Where is Jessica Hyde?

Woah. I thought the same about humans, though to be fair I didn't give it a chance - the premise was too similar to Almost Human and I kinda felt like that show would be hard to beat (not to mention that I was super pissed over it's cancellation). Haven't heard of Utopia. I'll have to check these two out.

But yeah, give The Expanse another shot. I wasn't too impressed my first try either, but Midway through Season One I was hooked. The slow burn is worth it 😁.
