Why is The Expanse SO Damn Good?

Bored one night, I decided to give SyFy (again... why is it spelled like that?!) channel's show The Expanse a shot. The previews and reviews online had been positive, and I love a good interplanetary romp. What I expected was a well-produced show with fairly solid writing, but probably not another Battlestar Galactica.
I was right. The Expanse just might be better than Battlestar.
It took until the second season for it to fully sink in, this dawning realization of exactly what I was dealing with. Like other fan favorite Game of Thrones, this show showed layer after layer both in the world, the characters, the interplay between the two, and each's interplay with itself.
I won't go into spoilers, but while many space shows and movies take the "everything is in a different solar system approach", Expanse contains itself to three main areas: Earth, the asteroid belt, and Mars. Earth is a aging empire, an old king with old tech. But it is also a giant beast that has had time to produce an army many times the size of the more technologically advanced Martians. The belters, ignored up to the point of the show as nothing more than low class miners, start to form their own powerful group within the belt.
This alone would be interesting enough, but there's more. I can't say anything without spoiling it, so I won't. I will say this: The Expanse is an awesome show and you should give it a shot if you've got space on your binge-roster. Two seasons are out, and it has been renewed for a third.
Have you seen The Expanse, or any other really good sci-fi shows, recently? Let me know in the comments! And don't forget to upvote and resteem!

I couldn't get into The Expanse, despite a couple of attempts. Sounds like I should have been more persistent!
The two sci-fi shows I've enjoyed in recent years are: Humans and Utopia.
Humans is a (very) near future scenario about the introduction of robots. It's an examination of the potential upheaval to society that they could cause (as well as the typical examination of what it is to be human). It works because none of it is a stretch, all of it feels like it's just around the corner and to some extent here already. The implications are worrying.
Utopia is a paranoia - conspiracy theory - action - thriller. It's surreal, geeky, weird, and a little bit welsh. And fun. Where is Jessica Hyde?
Woah. I thought the same about humans, though to be fair I didn't give it a chance - the premise was too similar to Almost Human and I kinda felt like that show would be hard to beat (not to mention that I was super pissed over it's cancellation). Haven't heard of Utopia. I'll have to check these two out.
But yeah, give The Expanse another shot. I wasn't too impressed my first try either, but Midway through Season One I was hooked. The slow burn is worth it 😁.
Yes, great series, agree. I heard rumours that they will continue with 3rd season. Or maybe is already going?
btw: I'm waiting for Isaac Asimov's Foundation :)
Ah, man, that'd be awesome! I've got to read the books before they release a series, though. Otherwise I know I'll never read them.
Oh, really? You must read the Foundation, for me, as an old sci-fi lover it's a fundamental :)
Nice post, thanks!!!
Upvoted.
The expanse is on my top ten list of science fiction series. Thanks for the review.
No problem!
