It's official, you can pack your swimming trunks for Mars
For all of those of us buying one of those one way tickets to mars with out crypro earnings when BTC hits 100K or 1 million dollars, you can now pack your swimming gear.
A lake, or permanent body of water has now been discovered on mars. It's about 20 km across but unfortunately only a bout 1 meter deep.
The only other catch is you will need to pack more than just your ice saw.
You will need some serious ice drilling equipment, since its under 1.5 km of ice beneath Mars's south pole.
Its been fascinating watching the rovers and other scientific instrumentation discover all kinds of signs of liquid water on mars's surface from the past and some transient but very temporary water on mars even today but this is very different in that it appears to be a permanent body of liquid water.
This has been published in Science and is being covered by most of the usual suspects so you can read more about it there.

Pack the swim trunks?.....wiseguy.
Very exciting news, I think we long expected this but increased confidence in the presence of water on Mars is very exciting for the future of colonization.
We have so much shit to fix on earth before ever having a need for Mars.
This is such powerful news for many of us interested in the development of life's facets all over the cosmos... Beautiful, thanks for sharing.
Namaste :)
I cant swim, so 1 meter deep is very good and safe for me :)
Thats good new and I will be prepared :D
That's is a crazy thought. Would you go explore the rocks on mars if consumer flights became available, @gavvet?
Does that mean life is possible on mars ?
Not exactly. If water is in liquid state so deep it need a lot of salt to lower its freezing temperature. Therefore its too cold and too salty.
But the title of the post says to pack our swimming trunks
I was reading about this earlier. It's very exciting!
This are some pretty interesting news. I'll save like mmm 200,000 sats for the trip in like 5 years haha. 200,000 dollars of a trip sounds acceptable.
