Ruthie's first vasilopita!
How is everyone? I am still trying to recover from all the food and sweets overdose. I hope you're managing a lot better than I am (I suck at staying away from food anyways)!
I am a little excited today as I tried to make a vasilopita for the first time.
Vasilopita? I have unknown words, Miss!
Right, vasilopita is a Greek New Year's custom with a loooong history. It is basically a cake baked with a coin in it. On New Year's we cut it and the one who finds the coin in his piece is considered to be the lucky one of the year.

I have to admit I borrowed the styling idea from my cousin. I tried to make it look as good as hers, but you see, I don't have an artist's DNA like she does...

Anyways, I am still proud of my creation, I only hope it tastes good so that I don't disappoint my guests on New Year's. And since I mentioned my guests, wanna take a look of the cute little thank you for coming gifts I made for them?

A simple yarn winter cap, a chocolate and some candies with a mini Good-Year card and there you have it! A great gift for the people you're having dinner with!
I need to get back to my kitchen now. I hope to come back tomorrow, but if I don't find the time, I'm wishing to all of you:

Well technically, vasilopita is not necessarily a chocolate cake, it can take many forms depending on where in Greece you are. This means it can also be a savory pie with a coin in it. I made this one because it was easier... 😋
