A God of the Impossible
Isaiah 66:8
8 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such
things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in
one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as
soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her
children.
Isaiah 66 is a message of judgment on those who refused to hear the words of the Lord...and of hope for those who had the courage to trust Him and cling to His promises. In this chapter, God promised that the Israelites' return to their homeland of Judah after the Babylonian captivity would be so swift that it could only be understood to be the work of the God who still worked miracles, who made possible what was physically and humanly impossible.
When God said, "Before she went into labor, she had the baby. Before the birth pangs hit, she delivered a son" (Isaiah 66:7), He was likening Israel's deliverance to a woman suddenly giving birth without experiencing labor pains - something just about anyone knows is an impossibility.
God's promises of restoration for the people of Israel are an amazing reflection of His promises to us as Christians today. While we spend our earthly lives in bodies that break down over time, God promises that one day we'll be miraculously changed, that we'll become eternal beings whose bodies will never die or get sick: It will happen "in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed" (1 Corinthians 15:52).
Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

It was not only a rhetorical question, it had a dual fulfillment!
Not only was it fulfilled in the return of the Jews from the Babylonian captivity but "literally" the modern state of Israel was birthed in a single day on May 14, 1948. On that day, the independent state of Israel was proclaimed as British rule in Palestine came to an end.
