RE: 10 Quotes on Writing by Nicholas Sparks
#6--I don't care for bittersweet endings. I like my happily ever afters. And, a lot of other people do, too. Books are escapism, and there are too many bittersweet things in the real world, so why would I go looking for it in entertainment? It's why I don't watch scary or sad movies. And, romance novel readers, in particular, EXPECT a happily ever after (aka "HEA"). I may put my characters through challenges, but I always give them an HEA. It's what I want to read, and I write for me first, and my audience next.

I write for me first, and then the audience, but I must admit I tend to write bittersweat ending. I mean I have a few Stories That end in "HEA", but the majority are bittersweet. I mainly write fantasy, sci-fy, and horror, but all my stories have a touch of horror in them. I don't know why, It just happens. But I have nothing against "HEA" ending and some of the best stories I ever read end Happy Ever After.
