One of the Biggest Challenges of Being Vegan - What to Do?

in #question6 years ago

I often get asked why I'm vegan, but when I answer truthfully, the people asking me aren't satisfied with my answer. I tell about the environmental and ethical reasons which made me leave animal products once and for all, and as a consequence, people feel offended. They feel judged, even though that's the last thing I'm aiming for. They feel uneasy, like I'd be accusing them for not acting as I am. I love to talk about veganism, especially about plant-based diet, since there are so many benefits to it, and I'd like as many people as possible to know about these advantages. However, recently I've been avoiding conversations about my veganism with new acquaintances, since I don't want to run into unnecessary conflicts. That's never my goal.

Therefore, I'm asking you, how do you deal with these kinds of situations?
If you've had similar experiences, I'd love to hear about them. I appreciate all your help! 😊

But most people doesn’t understand is that Animals do have feelings, more than some humans.(may be more than most of them). Sometimes, I wonder why don’t they add a picture of the slaughtered animal on the meat boxes or in the restaurants for more awareness 🤔? For smoking/drinking they do have enlightening captions with pictures everywhere and why not here ? At least with smoking/drinking the person is ruining themselves but seen as a very bad person by the society 🙄(PS:- I do eat meat but trying to cut down the consumption levels, change doesn’t happen just like that. But I’m trying my best )

Don’t worry about others, people should talk and express their feelings. If everyone is silent how there will be awareness, just because you’re talking about vegan stuff doesn’t mean that they should get offended. I do post many things on FB, most of my friends gets mad at me lol , I know that I can’t change them but atleast I can make them think :D, world is not just how they see

You're so right, even if people get mad or offended, it makes them think, and that's always good, no matter what the topic is. Perhaps later on those thoughts will affect them, so that they're ready to make a change, even a little one. :) I think eating plant-based dishes does so much good to people, vegan or not. Besides, many of my non-vegan friends have been positively surprised after I've cooked something for them, it's good to have variety in one's diet.

That thing you said about pictures with slaughtered animals for awareness, I've never thought about it, but now I wonder why not? Actually, something like that could be really effective! Often people don't see the steak they're eating as a part of an animal...
