The world will probably be better off without the British monarchy. But also probably worse without Queen Elizabeth.

She tried and tried to hold onto the world she knew... she was the rock in the wandering riverbed, always there, always the same, as the water ebbed and flowed about her... such disappointment for her as a mother... Charles' cruelty to Diana and affair with Camilla... Andrew's too-public ex wife Sarah Ferguson, and his recently settled sexual abuse (he paid the woman, nobody knows how much)... And finally, Harry's nutty choices... through it all she held her head up and represented that nation calmly and proudly...

But nothing lasts forever. Her world ended, even as she remained. Now, the international leftist Charles is the king of England. He will not leave that power alone as his mother did. Darker times ahead.

Britain and the world weep today as we say goodbye to a lady who is probably the last monarch worthy of that title.
