Emotional Intelligence as a Superpower
Since Daniel Goldman wrote on the subject, Emotional Intelligence has been gaining notoriety and importance. But what is it?
In short, it is the ability to regulate your emotions at any given time so that they do not run roughshod over your actions. Many of us succumb to our emotions in certain situations where it is unwise to do so. Just think of Donald Trump's reputation on Twitter.
We can class Emotional Intelligence on the same level as mindfulness meditation, and the latter can certainly support and improve the former. Regulating our emotions so that we can be more rational and think more logically and achieve the outcome we desire without our emotions clouding our judgement.
If you think in terms of Cryptocurrency or trading, and the advice of many traders telling you not to impulse buy or sell low due to your emotions, then you'll understand how emotional intelligence is paramount here. There is specific training you can do in this regard. Perhaps through meditative practices, but also some degree of awareness and self regulation is an achievable entry point that will yield results.
The following Talk at Google was given by Marc Brackett, who has been writing and speaking on this subject for a number of years. I think it is the most concise and easily digestible explanation I have seen so far. I hope you find it useful.
