WORK FOR A LIFE OR A LIFE FOR A WORK?
Downshifting is a very popular trend, which arose more than 50 years ago, and now once again captured the hearts and minds of millions. However, it can not be called simply a trend, it is something deeper and wider, it is a whole philosophy.

What does it mean?
And the direct translation, and the very essence is reduced to one - a shift down. Degradation? Decline? NO. There is a more rosy and positive meaning.
Downshifters are people who voluntarily refused career growth, high salaries, hard work without rest and sleep in favor of lower incomes, but with the opportunity to LIVE, and not just to earn on a life.
This trend has its root in the 60's, and the first downshifters were hippies. In the 80's, the notion of "voluntary simplicity" appeared, and it describes this phenomenon the best - voluntary choice in favor of a simpler, less rich material, but at the same time more rich spiritual life.
Do we often think about how we live?Do We notice life around us or just run in a hurry, feel its moments or just participate in a frantic race for stability and success?
How do most people live? Job- home. It is a way of survival for them. The conditions are so strict, and salaries are so insignificant that you have to spend a lifetime earning a piece of bread with occasional breaks for sleep. For others, the situation is similar: work for 16-20 hours a day, but not for survival, but in order to keep the already achieved success. If you are already at the peak, then success does not belong to you, but you belong to success.
Is there the end of this race? No. More precisely, it comes when the end of life comes. But not everyone can realize this. The programmed participation in this hellish relay race has already become a way of life. More precisely, similarity to life.
Downshifters are just those who decided to break the vicious cycle and get freedom. They want to LIVE, and not to live a marmot day in pursuit of the next millions. People can't earn all money of the world, no matter how hard you try, but to miss your own life and even not to notice it - it's so easy.
People are used to think that they must succeed in everything, and only at the finish line thunder rumbles "Life has passed" ...
their jackpot is already in their pocket. They have won the right to have free life, and this is more valuable than anything.
The system forces people to be unconscious bolts that obediently move in time to the common way: we must work, we must earn, we must buy, we must pay, we must, we must, we must ....
The cult of consumption has captured the human mind. The race for banknotes returned slavery, but in a more sophisticated form.
People live within the framework of patterns, but they just aren't able to realize it. The Matrix brought up its obedient puppets.
Downshifting implies the function "Wake up", which includes their awareness and understanding of what is happening. A new world, new views, new values, a new life! Now they LIVE a life, not exist to work.

I slightly disagree. This is your opinion that it is a pointless existence. For some, they are happy but the point is, people have to experience both extremes and everything inbetween before they can make a sensible decision !

pursuing money to feed the stomach is not living a life, people who has lost their self worth and they are suffering from inferiority complex, but the truth is that in as much as they is life, they is hope because a living dog is better than a death lion.

it's a proverb dear, it simply implies that though a lion is powerful than a dog, but if a lion is death, it is powerless but the dog who was lesser in strength will then become more powerful than the lion
I think there's quite a few roads between the archetypal wage slave and Robin Williams being weird ontop the desk and shit, but I digress.
Have you ever considered that perhaps this ennui you feel, this hole inside you preventing you from being everything you want to be is yet another societal construct, an molded reaction or alternative for when material aquisition becomes inevitably unfufilling? Have you ever noticed rebellion, resistance and defiance has gracefully not been banished, but rather given outlet through an individual's media consumption, self-identification with certain brands or aesthetics, and all the shit that not only fails to rise above consumerism, but often finds its only outlet through it? That in order for it to function at all, there must be a fundamental rule of the consumer never being satisfied?

Great post as usual Talia ! You have described me. But it took a lot of stress and heartache before I found my path. I have very few possessions and earn money simply to live the lifestyle I choose, which isnt always easy, but the point is, its MY choice and choice is what should drive all decision :-)
People have a right to choose their own path and no one has reason to criticise someone elses choices which is where problems start.

Отличный пост, мы не замечаем как проходит жизнь в погоне за деньгами, но, с, другой стороны, наше замечательное правительство не предоставляет нам другого выбора - мы поставлены в условия "на выживание", работаешь сутками чтобы хотя бы прокормить детей.
