Maybe this is an evolutionary adaption for those times when the leader of your tribe had to be a 'strong man'. The day would come when another strong man would conquer first the leader of your tribe to become the new leader.
Those who had the genes to become quickly psychologically adapted to accept and even like the new leader would survive. Those who did not would die or not thrive.
The kidnapper is something like that new strongman.
you are very right,, a practice that is based on controlling and demonstrating as a heroism, and giving that security, in a psychological way it is credible ... what a laugh of the new strong man, it is something like "I have you under my feet and you still protect me " and everything was based on evolution and the strongest of mind.
