Fascism and communism are two sides of the same coin

in #politics7 years ago

Government schools teach us that fascism and communism are opposites.

Fascism is on the far-right, while communism is on the far-left of the political spectrum. Of course, this doesn't make any sense since both ideologies are based on collectivism and authoritarianism. Actually, let's call fascism by it's real name: National Socialism.

Since collectivism belongs mostly to leftist doctrines, national socialism isn't so different from communism. The only difference in their theories is that national socialism is oriented on the nation-state, while communism is internationally oriented. As for the rest, both ideologies are grounded in collectivism and authoritarian power structures.

This is what makes Antifa so ironic. They claim to 'fight fascism', whatever that may mean. However, fascism is almost the same as the doctrine they push forward:

Congratulations, Antifa, you are your own enemy!

The reality is that Antifa just shuts down people who have an opinion that's different from their's. They are clad in black, have grim faces, shout deplorable slogans, and aren't scared of a fight. It's exactly what fascism looked like in the 1930s and 1940s.

We need to start making the right distinction

Since fascism and communism are so similar, let's not bother choosing sides. Instead, let's fight both of them. The truth is that both doctrines only prevail when people obey. It's not ideas that are dangerous, it's the millions of people who blindly follow orders because they think the authority of the state or the majority is legitimate. Who cares about a Hitler or a Stalin when everyone just ignores them?

Labels mean nothing...

Unless you put power, the "right" to aggression to them. The real division is not between left and right, but between tyranny and liberty.

Let's focus on achieving more liberty instead of this pitty fighting about which version of the same authoritarian doctrine is better (or less evil). We should both condemn far-left radicals and far-right nationalists. The truth is that they're both a danger to all of us.

Agree because they are authoritarian.

Thanks for reading!

Absolutely correct. Historically, progressives espoused viewpoints that different very little from what would today be regarded as "extreme right-wing fascism". It is only because of the attrocious events that happened in WW2 that the left started calling these things "extreme right-wing". Socialists had very little problem switching side to Nazism and fascism. Progressives in early 20th century were racist, antisemitic and pro-eugenics. The Fabian socialist society for instance. Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger was in favor of eugenics for the "weak" of society and was heavily against immigration. FDR was an admirer of Mussolini and fascism. Karl Marx and his buddy Engels were racists, antisemites, pro-slavery, nationalist and virtually everything that would have the left call them "Nazi" today (there is proof of this from Marx' own mouth). Calling Nazism and fascism "right-wing" is merely a strategic ploy by leftists to pretend that these ideologies were nothing close to them when historically they always were.
