To Vote or Not To Vote

With the upcoming elections, registrations for voters' card is on, discussions on television, radio, on various social media platforms. But this time around, am reluctant to participate in the upcoming elections. Come 2019, will it get better or worse? I feel like I have been heartbroken again and again with nothing left. I want to share in the optimism aired on television by political debaters, politicians but just like in the time past, I noticed that it keeps getting worse from past leaders to the present administration and I wonder what 2019 holds.

Corruption is just at its peak. Which way forward Nigerians? Who will bell the cat? Is there no single honest and prudent man in the whole of Nigeria? A country where religion is the opium of the masses. One should expect justice, fairness, equality and respect for the rule of law to reign supremacy. But no, it's lawlessness and corruption at its peak. I am still watching, I don't think the present administration has what it takes to set things right. The question is who is the right person? If I choose to vote, who will I vote for? Another corrupt politician or one that does not have the balls to set things right?

Will 2019 usher in more jobs, improvement in the various sectors - agriculture, oil, mining, production, education, power, and healthcare? Or will it just be another campaign of empty promises? Are we not tired of suffering and smiling? Are our leaders taking us for granted?

Come 2019, I don't know if I will vote or not. But certainly I will not cast my vote for any other corrupt politician. This must stop, corruption must stop. Which way forward Nigerians?

Thanks for your time.

As before, very nice piece.

In my opinion corruption is not the problem of Nigeria, but a result of clannishness among the masses and a feeling of entitlement among old politicians (study all Nigerian leaders and you will discover that only Goodluck Jonathan and Yaradua were open minded, detribalized visionaries).

But now that corruption is the order of the day and Saint Buhari has shown himself to be the most corrupt and ruthless of them all, I believe that the masses have the power to set things aright.

The Nigerian masses are more powerful than they think, but our insecurities and clannishness will keep holding us back whether we engage in political apathy or not.

We should be focused on finding a common theme for nation building - this is the only solution if followed religiously.

Restructuring is our best bet yet, but only if it's not politicized.

2019 just like 2015 will be a crucial year in Nigerian history. It will either salvage Nigeria from this Buhari mess and all the messes we find ourselves, or it can break our dear country in tiny pieces.

Whichever be the case, never deny yourself your voter's right; it's one right they are willing to let you express.

Thanks and #upvoted!
