One of the Oldest Hall in Whaeom-sa Temple
There is a hall beside Gakwhang-sa which is the representative buddhist building in Whaeom-sa temple.
This hall was made for the Merciful Goddess Bodhisattva.
There was no record, but it made me think this building the oldest hall in this temple.
What made me interest was the foundation of the building and the steps at first.
As I wrote before, one of the important part in looking at old architectures in Korea is the corner stones.
Because every building was constructed with wooden parts, the stone parts might be the only proof for the history.
When they rebuilt the halls, the corner stones were reused if those parts were available.
In this respect, the hall for the Mercy Goddess Bodhisattva must be the oldest in this temple.
Actually the wooden part of this hall was preserved very well, its architectural style tells us it was the style of early Goryeo dynasty.
It was very happy when I found the unknown meanings in the Buddhist temples.

I don't know much about the corner stones! But based on your description, I could get an idea with that photography! Thanks for sharing such great travel destinations with us!

역시 대단하시네요
엄청난 세월의 흔적이 느껴진다 싶었는데
그런 비밀이 숨겨져 있었군요. 재사용이라면 ...훨씬 이전에 만들어진..
